The absolute best pocket holster for 642?

I realize that people have personal preferences, but I have actually carried in the Mika round cut, square cut, and the Nemesis. The Mika round cut is my choice, hands down. I carry in suit trousers, jeans, docker-type slacks, and shorts and it works exceedingly well in all. I can get a full...

    Nemesis v. Mika

I've carried both and my preference (and all the time carry) is a Mika, round bottom. It works better in more pocket shapes and depths and remains open enough to get a complete firing grip, with trigger finger along frame, in the pocket. It does not print to the point that it can be identified.

    Long Hunter tuned SAA clones

Thanks, Mr. March. I have read the same about their hardening. It may have coincided with Uberti's becoming part of the Beretta family. As you said, replacing springs is no problem. My Cimarron has been a fine shooter with no issues, as is. The fine folks at Cimarron--the Harvey family--...

    Long Hunter tuned SAA clones

I don't compete in CAS events but do like single action revolvers. I have USFA Rodeos, a Cimarron Model P, and a Ruger New Vaquero. All of mine have been fine shooters. The USFAs are precisely built and finely timed. I like the bead-blast black finish for a shooter and would love to have a...

    Long Hunter tuned SAA clones

While I've not personally handled any of Long Hunter's work, I do know that he's highly regarded in the CAS community. I have some good friends who know him and trust his work implicitly. He is also a fine CAS competitor, so he knows what's needed and what's not. I'm no shill for him, mind...

    XD Tactical or Hi-Power

I have an XD 45 tactical, a BHP 9mm, and a BHP .40 and the BHP 9mm is certainly my choice. I have not shot an XD 9 so I can't make the direct comparison, but my BHPs are more comfortable to carry and shoot and easily as, if not more reliable than my XD 45. I choose the 9 over the .40 because...

Check out the new Ruger Montado!

Indeed! Rounded or birdshead grip would've been nice, but this'll do!

    R. Mika's business must be good!

I agree wholeheartedly that the Mika pocket rigs are outstanding. I've gotten three from him and carry one with a 642 daily. I can get a firing grip on the piece in my pocket without calling any attention to the fact that I'm carrying. I can draw faster than with just about anything else I have.

    Montana / Wyoming / OK

I've lived in S.E. OK, about 15 mi. N. of the Red River for 40+ years. The people are for the most part good, hard-working mind-their-own business folks. Meth, however is rampant. Our area is growing a bit too fast for my tastes, with housing prices going up and land as well. More industry...

Do Springfield XDs ever malfunction? Anyone having this problem?

Simple answer--Yes, as with any mechanical device, they can and do malfunction. I have an XD 45 Tactical and it malfunctioned repeatedly with handloads which had worked extremely well in various 1911s for years. Don't have the load specs in front of me but may have been an OAL issue. Haven't...

It looks like the calibers war has been won

Well, back in '77, Jug come up with the .44-50 Jug, with a .50 cal necked down to .44, using a 240 gr. bullet. He was wantin' to get it to about 6000fps. Never did hear how that worked out for him but that little old light bullet he was using sure wadn't much by todays standards.

It looks like the calibers war has been won

Any of you older fellers out there know where Jug Johnson is these days ought to give him a holler--These boys're hornin' in on his ballistics territory!

    .45 birdshead vaquero

To further confuse matters, I believe the "new model" and "old model" designations on the grip frames sold by Brownell's refer to the Ruger "old model" 3 screw single actions (Blackhawks) and the "new model" 2 screw (Blackhawks and Vaqueros), not the small frame "New Vaquero". I would certainly...

    Pocket Carry...ain't workin'...

I agree that the MIKA pocket holster (round bottom for me) is the way to go. I carry a 642 in regular levis and levis shorts, as well as slacks or suit pants. I've tried others but Robert Mika's is my choice. It's stout enough to cover the gun shape and just large enough that you can get a...

My Robert Mika J-Frame Pocket Holster

I carry my 642 in the rounded model in my jeans and suit pants and it works quite well in both. I have the squared model but the round one has worked so well that I really haven't bothered to try it much. At first it struck me as a bit overly large but then I realized he left just enough extra...

    Thanks

Mr. Skelton--I'll add my meager bit to the thread by saying that your father had a rare combination of real world experience (in some livlier times), knowledge of his subject matter, true wit, and extraordinary writing skills. Years ago, I went through my old Shooting Times, my shooting...

    Should I? Possible USFA purchase

USFAs of recent manufacture are not made with foreign castings or foreign forged unfinished parts. All parts are US made, finished, and assembled. If someone actually has proof to the contrary, they should most certainly report it as USFAs advertising would be misleading and untruthful. On...

    Stampede vs Vaquero

I have a .45 Colt New Vaquero with 4 5/8 inch tube and a compadre has one in .38/.357. While I don't have a Stampede, I do have a Cimarron/Uberti and a few USFA Rodeos. The Ruger feels very close to the others and the balance is excellent. Mine has shot great and I'm completely pleased with...

Cimarron Wyatt Earp Buntline: Anyone got one?

Uberti is the Italian manufacturer (now owned by Beretta, to futher confuse) and Cimarron is an importer. Several U.S. distributors sell Ubertis under their own name. Several years ago, Mike Harvey, pres. and founder of Cimarron went to Uberti and required several changes to their 1873 style...
