    Offhand shooting practice

Did a few standing unsupported strings at 100y with my AR today with the LPVO set around 3X. Very humbling and the below is my best “group”. Whether for hunting or training, get your gun off the bench and work on practical skills!

Mixing it up for summer carry (P365)

Picked up a shorter grip frame for my EDC 365XL. Love the gun and figured less printing under a T-shirt wouldn’t be a bad thing. Haven’t shot pinky tucked much lately but never had a problem with the Glock 27 back in the day.

    BLC-2 and 55 grain fmj

So my preferred practice load for my 16” AR is 24.0 grain of H335 with a Hornady 55gr FMJ. I have a pound of BLC-2 that I need to use and the various data I’m seeing is kind of all over the place. What charge should I use to be mild and reasonable accurate out of my AR? Not looking for...

    Snappy .380 pistols

So I’m an occasional .380 user, slipping the regular LCP in pocket during urban rucks. I’ve put a decent amount of rounds through this little thing. I keep reading of how snappy, uncontrollable, or inaccurate these guns are. What are people talking about? My XL mitts hold the thing like a...

Trying to hold out for a nice mulie

Wife has already put a cow elk and little mule deer in the freezer. After work, I’ve got two remaining days to chase mulie bucks in a non trophy unit on public land. Hoping to find a nicer deer than these previous two best kills (top is an old guy with a limp, meat was good but had to grind...

    Swaro scope mini review

Update on my old post as I finally shot with this thing. I’m usually a lower/mid end Leupold guy but decided to use a bunch of Cabelas points to get this guy for free. It’s truly impressive with incredible glass and great eye relief on all magnifications! Clicks are way positive as well. As...

    Mountain Grouse Hunting

Beautiful day at 10,000’! Walked a good 5 miles and didn’t see a single grouse but man what a time to be on the mountain.

    Sig P229 1st Range Trip

I’ve long regretted selling my P239 and just picked up this older but hardly used P229 in .40. Lots of fun shooting some old 180g reloads today. Target was shot DA/SA at 7y fairly quickly doing El Presidente drills. Not sure when it was made but it came with one Clinton Ban mag marked 96’.

    ELDX bullet performance on game

I’ve got a 6.5 Creedmoor on the way to complement my do everything 30-06. I’m an Accubond guy but am considering trying the 143g ELDX for mule deer and pronghorn given the moderate velocity of the 6.5 and the cost/lack of availability of Accubonds. Looking for other hunters experiences on on...

    Weatherby Mark 5

I’m considering a Weathermark in 6.5 Creedmoor as it checks all the boxes for my preferences (6.1#, good trigger, quality stock, internal mag, and locking bolt). Anyone have experience with this one or any current production Mark V’s?

    LCP off center hammer question

Mine leans way left, is this normal?

The one I’ve Considered for 15 years (LCP Range Report)

I was a young cop when the LCP came out and I remember all the narcotics guys scrambling to get them. I’ve always been intrigued but waited until yesterday to buy one. This will not be my daily carry but will fit a niche when I ruck etc. It ran 75 rounds of CCI FMJ flawlessly today and I was...

    Kahr CW 380

Anyone have one? I’m tempted to get one but had a bad experience with a PM 40 years ago so I’m worried about reliability. Do the .380s run well?

    Super Bearcat!

This little beauty from 1972 came home with me today. Appears little used and cleaned up nicely. Spent some time practicing how to safely load five as I have zero experience with traditional single actions. I will say the trigger is WAY better than a transfer bar Ruger. Plan to have my kids...

Hiking Revolver, what do you pack?

Cold months find me out for fairly vigorous fitness hikes in cat country or urban rucks. My PD340 is loaded with 158g .38 +P with a Barnes .357 reload and carries well in the front pocket : Summer time and the bears are up. In the high country this gal goes along tucked in an OWB holster and...

    Glass upgrade on my ‘06

She’s (Sako A7 flinging 180g Accubonds at 2875fps) had a Leupold 3-9 CDS for years now and taken mule deer, elk, and speed goats. Really liked the scope but got tired of it being bumped off zero with the exposed elevation turret. Got looking into lightweight simple 1” tubed scopes and decided...

340 PD (titanium Jframe) first time out

Finally got to shoot and qualify with my new BUG today. Shot to point of aim and was very manageable with +P, very happy with this choice. I feel comfortable out about 20y center mass. With all the other gear I have to carry, the light weight and simplicity of this guy is perfect. Even been...

    Swarovski’s BRX reticle

I’m looking hard at the 1” Z3 3-10X42 for my do everything 30-06 western game rifle. Anyone have experience with this reticle?

    4+1 carry loads

Four rounds hot .38 158g buffalo bore followed by the last round (140g Barnes .357) because there is no need to worry about recoil on the last round slowing you down. Anyone else load their carry gun like this?

Who makes scopes with a “rain guard” coating?

I remember the Bushnell Elite line (probably the only ever quality Bushnell) had lens coatings that would bead up moisture making them usable in weather. Is anyone making something similar these days that works?
