AR .300 BO Subsonic - 220g function question

Using Berry's plated 220's and 9.5 to 10gn of H-110, these cartridges seem to work fine in published data. For me, they don't function reliably - bolt fails to come back all the way and cycle. I don't have a suppressor on my test gun, the tests were run with one. Does the can make a...

    Source for less popular cartridges

If you need 7mm Mauser, .25 Roberts, .303 Savage or lots of other cartridges that aren't as popular as 5.56, etc... www.cavalryammunition is a small reloader that has them in stock.

Hornady Lock-n-load powder measure - instructions mistake

The LNL manual tells you to put the powder bushing sleeve in with the 'deep contour countersink' facing upwards. It won't work that way - only when facing down. Took some time and looking carefully at some youtube videos to figure this one out. I'm using it on my 650 and 750 Dillons beacuse...

Loading .44 Colt on a Dillon 550 question

The Dillon shellplates are the same for .44 Mag/Spl/Colt and Russian. But the smaller rim doesn't stay put on the priming upstroke - pops out and gouges the rim. Has anyone else seen this problem - and can suggest a workaround? I just wrote Dillon to see what they say.

.38-40 and WW231/HP-38 - upper limit on published data query

Found this to be a good combo in my '92 Win and '73 Peacemaker at 7.0g over a cast 180g pill. No signs of pressure, distress or extraction troubles anywhere. I'm positive this was a safe, midrange load when I started using it about 10 years ago or so. I never hotrod any handloads - I have a...

American Select Powder in .45 ACP - experiences

Anybody have experience with this? Loading 230g FMJ's. Alliant site says 6.0g, which seems pretty hot. Thanks.

Battle of the Bulge part II - the bottom part

I use a Lee Bulge Buster to correct that little bulge from some Glock range brass and that bit at the bottom that resizing does don't quite reach. But that's a one-at-a-time process. Has anyone come up with a way to automate this, or do them in bulk? I was thinking of buying four Bulge...

45 ACP projectile bulge on the cartridge case

I've searched and read lots of threads on this topic without a clear resolution. I'm loading .45 ACP, with Zero & Montana Gold 230 FMJs. I get a bulge in the case where the base of the bullet sits (not at the base nor 'Glock' bulge). I acknowledge they fit and function fine, and there is...

Lee 'u' dies and sized .45 cases with that little ring near the rim

When I use 'regular' Lee dies, my sized .45 ACP cases are left with a little area that looks un-resized, about 1/16" wide just above the case rims. My Lee 'U' dies don't leave that little mark, but my finished cases look a little bulged with a .451 projectile seated. In both cases, all the...

.45 ACP and AA No. 2 Powder - data has changed

In 2009 I loaded a couple hundred of these with a 230g FMJ and 5.6g of No. 2. At the time, I am confident that it was load that was midrange and didn't exceed published maximums. The cartridges did seem pretty 'stout' but the accuracy was there and they performed well. Now I go to make more...

Zouave Nipple and Wrench size question

I recently bought an 1863 Remington Contract "Zouave" rifle (mfg. by Ranson, in Italy), and am buying some accessories for it - but have been unable to find exactly what size nipples it uses so I may buy a spare, and a wrench. I bought one nipple wrench, but it's the wrong size - too small...
