I have no idea where people even shoot anymore.

If the only thing preventing the OP to move to a rural area is fast internet , there has been for many years grants that telephone companies can and do get to improve communications in "underserved" areas. I live 90 miles from a grocery store and 4 miles off a paved road yet I have a fiber optic...

I just picked up a Smith and Wesson 357 cant find model number looking for any information

jcdmgiles, I hope you don't feel we're piling on. It's just that given the times we live in, this is the kind of thing that could put a good person in prison. I hope you can get this resolved without losing any money. I also truly hope you stay around; this is really a pretty easy going and...

I just picked up a Smith and Wesson 357 cant find model number looking for any information

The Feds coming is somewhat unlikely. What I would worry about is being pulled over for a traffic violation and somehow the pistol being examined by the officer. A pistol without a serial number will get you cuffed and stuffed even in gun friendly states. Best thing the OP can do is try to get...

Surprising and funny things that happened while hunting

My niece spent many hours of her childhood in deer blinds with her dad. She is now a 35 year old women with two children. Anyway, when she turned 13 it was decided it was time for her to get her first deer. She, her dad and I were in a blind and along came a fat doe about 60/70 yard away. She...

I just picked up a Smith and Wesson 357 cant find model number looking for any information

Again, the numbers on the SIDE of the grip frame are NOT serial numbers. They are numbers used in house by S&W while the gun is being made. The actual serial number is on the BOTTOM of the frame. A gun with a altered or obliterated serial number is a serious problem. But you do you.

I just picked up a Smith and Wesson 357 cant find model number looking for any information

You may want to take the pistol to someone familiar with firearms; a dealer perhaps. If the serial number has been removed, that gun is very illegal to possess. If that's the case, I'd be quitely returning that hot potato to the person I got it from. Good luck

I just picked up a Smith and Wesson 357 cant find model number looking for any information

Is the barrel marked with "357 Combat Magnum"? If so, it's a pre 1957 revolver that was renamed M19. The serial number is stamped on the bottom of the grip frame, not on the side. The stampings on the side of the grip frame are used in the manufacturing process and have nothing to do with...

    686 new shoes

Over my 50+ years of fooling with guns I’ve never spent money to improve their looks. Trigger jobs, accurizing, improve reliability, absolutely but refinishing, engraving, etc; no. That said, I have a very accurate 686 with extensive trigger work. Saw a set of Texas Grips holly wood stocks for...

Cougar kills young man in California

Where are I live, the Big Bend of Texas, we have a lot of lions; sightings are not common but also not rare. We have a large enough population that local ranchers have active trapping programs to keep them in check. Seems every 10-15 years someone will have an encounter but I've not heard of any...

    Unwelcome visitor

They are absolutely hungry and certainly active in the day because of the temp. We're getting into 80s now. Same thing happens in the fall. Too hot during the day in the summer so they go to the night shift. Length about 30" but fat.

    PPC revolvers

Unless it's marked by Clark, Glenn, Davis or another known PPC smith I can't think of now, thats a $600-$700 gun at best. There are a fare amount of "no name" PPC guns for sale out there. PPC is, unfortunately, almost dead.

    Crazy auction

I've been idly looking for an old PPC gun and ran into this listing on GB. The seller says it's a K38 but no, it's either a M14 or 15. Anyway, the frame is cracked in at least two places, the Aristocrat rib is bent and the cylinder won't open. Oh yeah, also rust in the bore and screws...
