How bad ARE the S&W Taylor Cutlery folding knives?

I am looking at the Extreme Ops folders and the Border Guards. These are the chunky 4.5 inch blades on sale from time to time at Big 5 for about $14 or 16. I know all about the arguments of the China 440-claimed blades, etc. I was just wondering if any real owners have some honest feedback...

    Ruger P89 pleasant surprise

So, after all these years, with this gun being in production, I finally bought one. It was a mint, unfired one, for $280 OTD. I bought it on a whim. I have always liked the P90. The frame grip fits my hand nicely. I also think that this is as slim as the Browning Hi Power. The slide is...

    Kershaw Offset G10 MIM 440C

The internet seraches say this Metal Injeciton MOlding 440C steel is used in automotive, cutlery, sporting goods, etc. It supposedly has a 20% shrink-back after molding, and the polymer binders are dissolved after heat treating. What confuses me is hte 440C designation. In straight 440...

    420HC Buck vs Leatherman

Are all 420HC done in the same quality? I read here that the heat treatment of the Buck process is very good. How is Leatherman's reputation? Are all the 420 HC made and heat treated in China to similar US specs? All replies and clarifications appreciated. :D I see a nice little lock...

    USP45C - Pretty Nice

I am beginning to grow into this little pistol. I bought this a little while back, and it sat in the safe, because I had a decent buy on it. I never really liked HK pistols because of the blocky slide. I also never really carried its larger full size model. then I started carrying it and...

Recoil Reduction for 300WM Howa 1500?

I am shooting the Federal 180gr Walmart loads, and it is still rather stout. I am using the Howa 1500 Legacy with the synthetic stock Does anyone have recommendations for a pad for the stock? I saw a Limbsaver, but did not buy because not sure of the size (Medium or large). I think the...

    Cold Steel China vs. Taiwan

Before this gets into a Lynn Thompson bash, please avoid the man and reflect the product per usage experience. Having said that, I have begun seeing the Made in China blades with teh Cold Steel label. The blades seem more polished in appearance. The edges do not seem as finely ground as the...

    400gr CorBon from 454 Alaskan?

How accurate and controlalble is a 400gr CorBon from such a shor barrel? I see the magTech 260(?)g offerings, and I heaar these are the most mild factory loadings for such a high pressure caliber. Anyone own an Alaskan, and acutally shoot it with different loadings and want to share...

Narrowing price-point of steel vs. polymer autoloaders

It seems the 1911s are in the zone of the higher end polymer pistols. I made the polymer choice today, after handling various steel 1911s from Kimber, Springfield, Colts, S&W, and Paras. They were all in the zone of $740-900. I then held a USP 45 (2006 production I guess, with AG...

    Cold Steel Nightshade series

I bought some of the knife shapes from the Special Projects holiday catalog. PRetty decent close-outs. For about $6.50 each, they are pretty neat. The edges are not meant for cutting. They are a purely stab-n-go knid of last ditch item. Neat and comfortable. Light. No rust. Good for...

What gun reliabilty stories from the sand pits in Middle East?

Anyone know if all the cleaning and lubinigi the 115+F heat and sand in Iraq and Afghanistan helps the Beretta or Colts? What about the AR rifles? Compared to the AK rifles? Anyone hear anything about the SIGs or such used by the military troops? Any jams or malfunction problems?

    S&W Performance Center 629

I was looking at a couple of these super nice revolvers. One was 3 inches plus a comp and the other was a 4 incher plus comp. Man, I give the S&W Performance Center high marks for these lovely well-crafted guns. They were on the stiff side of $825 each. However, I think they are worth it. I...

How good is the Ruger MK77 RSI International?

I am looking for an 18in barrel rifle with 30-06 caliber. I came across this rifle in a catalog, and it look rather intriguing with the full front end stock. I like the compact length, and the fact it has iron sights, and is a bolt rifle. Ruger has some good reputation with rifles, so I am...

9mm accuracy and power from a 16in barrel?

Is there a significant difference vs. the standard 4-5 in pistol barrel? Does the extra barrel length offer a more complete powder burn? If so, is it better to use hotter loads in carbine length rifles for 9mm? Does Win 115gr whitebox have enough oomph to push through rifles like the UZI...

    New favorite knife

For $4.50, my Buck TLC knife is a great buy. Made in Taiwan, it has a super comfy handle, and is more usable than my CKRT Bear claw. Plus, it is sharp. Cheap enough to abuse and lose wihtout crying over it.
