    First reload success!!!

When I got into reloading in the early 80s it was not solely to save money but rather to have access to ammo in calibers not readily stocked by the local gun shop (which was 25 miles away from 29 Palms). My group shot metallic sihloutte and finding ammo such as 7mmTCU or or TC Contenders...

Your view of police shotgun load (read OP)

My own HD shotgun is loaded as follows: 1 #2 turkeyshot (less likely to over penetrate drywall) 2 #4 buckshot (some chance of penetration) 1 00 buckhot If I get to this stage something is really wrong 1 slug Last chance I want maximum damage/impact

Best 'All around' .357 Lead bullet

These days I don't shoot much .38/.357 but have a number of loads using Missouri Bullets (158gr). Back when I was a broke enlisted man we loaded either 000 Buckshot for 'powderpuff loads' or 148gr hollow base wadcutters for lighter plinking rounds. Self-defense rounds were those same 148gr...

    Media gone bad!

+1 on the spent dryer sheets. I've found that cutting one into small squares/strips and adding it to cleaner has cut the dust down to near nil... When the sheet pieces get dark/dingy pull 'em out of the separator put in fresh ones. Leaves the brass with a nice summer-breeze scent too :)

Why is the 10/22 so popular?

One of the common threads is that a lot of us do modify the 10/22. Just cruise around www.rimfirecentral.com for examples of how far folks have gone in their quest for an 'Ultimate 10/22'. For many of us the Ruger with its aftermarket support is a (relatively) inexpensive way to cut our teeth...

Faster, Lighter, POINTED bullets in a .30-30?

Not quite as light as 125 but Hornady does make a 140g in that line... http://www.hornady.com/store/30-30-Win-140-gr-monoflex-Leverevolution/ Or of 'ya want to assemble your own http://www.hornady.com/store/30-Cal-.308-140-gr-monoflex/ +2 on watching the OAL with some leverguns...

$650, what scope would you get for hunting big game?

I just ordered the Leupold VX-R 3x9x40mm CDS with the illuminated dot to put on my FN XP in .308 Price was just over $500 delivered to my door. I liked the Trij. model but it was twice the price as the Leupold! And I've always had good luck with Leupolds. I chose the the VX-R as I liked the...

Is it worth it for me to start casting?

Worth it? Probably... Depends on... ... what you shoot... ... free/cheap(ish) lead sources... ... how much time you have... I've been casting off and on for many years, started with a .50cal Hawkens back when local availability of round and minnie balls was scarce but lead was...

Let's have a candid conversation about GLOCKs.

I own a Glock22 (gen3) and gave my G19 (gen3) to the daughter as a gift. Both are dependable and fit the requirements I have/had. I can't vocalize it but the Glock just 'feels right' in my hand. Ergonomics is my primary criteria followed very closely by reliability and then by...

    Toys 'R' Us: Boycott.

I got the same canned response as well with the same cliche of 'for the children'. I guess the several hundred we drop there on gifts per year will go elsewhere!

    Next addition to the collection?

No shotguns? I recently got into shooting skeet so I "HAD" to add a Browning Citori to the collection. I got a 20g and now am considering the 12g as well :)

    Reloading Price Comparison.....

Cost is only part of the factor; for me its availability without having to have large stockpiles onhand. Having components that work with various calibers allows me to reload a variety & ensures that I will have the ammo I need when I want it (and tuned to my specific firearms). I've got a...

    Catching flak for ccw

The Mrs still gives me the 'eye' :scrutiny: from time to time when we go out with friends so in order to promote domestic tranquility I swap out my Glock for my Ruger LCP without saying anything to her. I pocket carry the Ruger and don't say anything to her. Sometimes spousal harmony trumps...

What happened to this 300Win Mag Brass??

I'd never seen this post-firing; only from having too much lube on the casing during resizing.... Is the camber clean/dry of oil/grease? Its not a fluted chamber by any chance? Keep up informed as to what 'ya find out!

Skills were tested... and I got a C+ maybe...

We are often our own harshest critics. I think you did well and have recognized some areas for 'improvement' or fine-tuning. Overall I say well done and a good opportunity to improve if required/desired.

How many of you keep your 10/22s stock?

Neither of mine are stock but I bought the cheapest 10/22's I could find (at Dick's) for about $199 each. Both sport Predator T-Rex stocks, Mueller APV scopes; one has a 22lr Green Mountain bull barrel and the other a .17 Mach2 barrel/bolt from Rimfire Technologies. Both will shoot 5 shot...

    30-30 for squirrels

Many, many years ago I used to make 'gallery' loads for my 7mmMag using lubed #2 buckshot (I believe it was anyway) . I don't recall the recipe anymore but it was only a couple of grains with a filler holding the powder close to the primer. It shaved the slightest amount of lead seating the...

would you use this "closet dehumidifier" in ammo cans to store ammo?

If it were required the military would be using them as well. Required? Probably not but its cheap insurance :) If you feel the need or just want to be extra-extra-extra sure, add 2 small packs (top/bottom) for each. If you are very frugal you can scrounge them electronics boxes (check...

    Gifting handguns to children

I bought a Glock 19 for my daughter's birthday/college graduation. Right now its locked in the safe until after she completes a safety class for her CHP. Even though I taught her a lot about shooting/firearms, I still want her to take and pass the class : partly to appease her mother :)...
