I have the 795 and have had pretty good shooting with it. One no-fire with remington hollowpoints. I tried the round several times so I am pretty sure it was that and not the rifle.
I had just taken the action apart and buffed everything nicely with a dremel and some 1000 grite sandpaper...

I have a pre-64 Model 70 in 264 win mag probably in the "great" condition category, and unfortunatley it got some rust on it. I was able to clean it off and now there is some of the bluing missing from the rust in a few different spots.
Is it worth rebluing and taking off the old finish or...
I went to walmart and got a centerpoint scope for 50 bucks. It comes with the rings and is for a .22... I put it on my marlin 795. Took me about 20 min to sight it in at about 75 yards. It wasa good out to 100 and the rings have held up for the last 3 times shooting.
are you using regular oil or a bore cleaner, and what size steel wool?
I just did this with a couple of guns and it works really well. I was using LSA military cleaner/oil and I rubbed the gun down with the LSA and let it soak for a little, then went in with thick steel wool-type scrubbing...

Just shot a tokarev the other day from there with that ammo. It was good ammo. The stuff his highly corrosive though so clean it everytime you use the stuff.
