What is the last gun that you bought?

Nice score on that Pietta; ever since I sold my .45LC Ruger Blackhawk 10 years ago I really miss the simplicity and joy of shooting a single action revolver. Oh, and by the way you need to get yourself a 1911. If you need justification just say to yourself your going to start your "Wild Bunch"...

    Rem Oil Use.

I used to use Rem Oil until several years ago I was discussing gun oils with a gunsmith and he turned me onto Clenzoil. I found Clenzoil to not evaporate like Rem Oil does and I've noticed a big difference; in fact I even started using it around the house on door hinges and the stuff really...

    LCRX 3 inch 38 - do you-?

@Ed Bulldog Yes, I EDC a Ruger LCRx 3in revolver. I use Hornady American Gunner 125gr hollow point; it's the most accurate load in my revolver that is usually in stock at my local sporting goods store. Wow! I haven't priced out these guns lately but $600 is steep. I think I paid $325 a couple...

Alright, what do you all think 1911 decision?

I had a Kimber Custom II in the past (fell on hard times and needed to sell it 😭) but it functioned flawlessly for me. I have nothing to say bad about Kimber as other posters have stated. Based on my previous experiences with the brand they have my vote but SA has a solid reputation as well.

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

My gunsmith looked at the bore and ruled that out. Also checked headspace and he told me it was within specifications. Perhaps in the future when things calm down for me I'll get back into reloading and try to tailor loads for it.

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

Well, sorry for the months long delay in getting back to all of you. Between home emergencies dealing with plumbing, family emergencies, having to work six days a week, etc. I just finally got time to get out to the range with this rifle. After experimenting with different bullet weights...

    New shooter, first target...

@MrBorland That's a great group for someone's first time shooting a handgun. Your spot on with that comment. That's why I take my 9 year old (soon to be 10) out to the range as much as possible. He shoots a Ruger Wrangler and has become quite proficient with it.

What is your home defense pistol choice?

It would be my CCW, a Ruger LCRx 3". My wife's Glock 42 is right next to it in the speed safe. I like to think I live in a safe area but I also have cameras on my house and my 80 pound German Shepherd; she's my main line of defense.

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

Thank you for your feedback. Next couple of weekends I have some things going and won't be able to get out (plus the cold and snow finally hit northern Michigan); as soon as I get some time I will get back out and report on my findings.

    M16 Vs M14

After reading all of this, I wonder how much history would have been altered if our armed forces had adopted the FN-FAL rather than the M-14. Certainly adopting a more suitable cartridge (perhaps a 6mm???) in the 1950's would have been beneficial. And thank you to all of you Vietnam Veterans...

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

I will get out soon and try some new ammo in it. I appreciate all the comments on this. @alfsauve Looking at your picture, that is about a 2 inch group, correct?

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

I'm going to go and find some other brands of ammunition in the coming weeks and report back. I understand what everyone is saying about barrel length, smoothing it out, trying other loads, etc. As for having someone else shoot it for groups; my gunsmith already did that with other ammunition...

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

@270OKIE Unfortunately yes, that is Mossberg's response. They weren't nasty to me at all on the phone; I won't say the conversation had a negative overtone but that is in fact what they told me. Yes, the barrel is floated correctly; it isn't touching the stock and everything looks good...

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

I do have an update to share; I just got off the phone with Mossberg Customer Service in Eagle Pass. I explained everything to the rep I spoke to and was advised that this rifle has only a 16.25" barrel and that is its accuracy potential; he said pretty much all scout type rifles will have...

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

@270OKIE I think you have a point and thinking about this further I'm just going to give Mossberg a shout and talk to customer service. Let's see what they say and go from there. I will give an update as soon as I have some feedback.

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

Thank you all for your responses and advice. A few takeaways: My gunsmith checked all of the action screws, the scope and the mounts. Everything is torqued to spec and seems good to go; he even checked it after receiving it back from Mossberg (he handled the warranty return for me and was the...

Mossberg MVP Patrol - 7.62x51 - Ammunition suggestions?

Good evening THR, I thank you ahead of time for your suggestions and assistance. Last year I purchased a Mossberg MVP in the spring; life got in the way and I wasn't able to get out to the range with it until mid-summer. The first time I went to fire it my pattern (yes, I say pattern) was...

    Ruger Wrangler(s) Experience

I use standard velocity CCI and Blazer and they seem to work just fine. I haven't tried anything else but I don't see how it would matter either way SV or HV. I don't have the manual in front of me but I don't recall any warnings stating not to use HV.

    Ruger Wrangler(s) Experience

@Tenncvol I'm sorry to hear about your problems; I have a Wrangler that my son shoots and it seems to be accurate and reliable; haven't had any issues with at all. I commented on another forum about a Charter Arms quality issue; it just seems to me that nobody really cares anymore about...

Brand new Charter Arms Undercover - Not Pleased at all

Reading all of the problems with Charter Arms and how many folks have had to return them for warranty work it begs the question: wouldn't it just be cheaper to build the damn things right in the first place? My gosh, they have to be spending a fortune in shipping and repairing all these guns...
