Thanks VA, I think I will still get one. I am one of the “little people” that this thread refers too. Between raising a family and work I've done very little shooting the last few years. But I always said someday I was going to own one. Well, now the kids are all grown up and I've worked my way...
Starting to see lots of 17 HMR here in west central Ohio. 22's are still scarce but I hear some guys are finding it here and there. Forget the local Wal Mart's in any rimfire.
I also heard some places have 22's behind the counter and you have to ask as they want to have some on hand for new...
I have no idea but I would bet most have never had to draw. That's why I hate the anti's "It will be like the old west" argument. It's never been the case.
Very good question though.
I was kind of wondering the same thing. My father passed away a few years and I now have a few of his 30-30's. Golden Spike carbine and Colt single action .22, Cowboy, and a few others I can't recall without digging them out.
I'm thinking of just shooting at least one of them someday.
I had a $50 gift card from Christmas burning a hole in my pocket so I picked up a cheap Tasco red dot for my 10/22. I know it's on the cheap side but hey, it was free to me and a I always wanted to try one.
I'm going to sight it in later today, anything I should know about these? I'm somewhat...
I have one of each, .17 hmr and .22 mag, both Marlins. I definitely think either one is justified to own even though you own a .22 lr. The difference is surprising. You will like them. Ammo is a little high but I use them sparingly.
Bank robberies were very rare in the "old west" too. I've read where from 1859 to 1900 there were less than 10 bank robberies in those 40 or so years.

My cat likes to rub his face on the muzzle of my 10/22 while practice some Appleseed style dry fire exercises. Nice test if I can hold steady.
Jason_W, love that photo, looks like my man-cave in the basement. Guns, guitar amps, and a cat. Life is good.
Thanks NC, the page I looked at was sold out. Guess I needed to look a little farther. I'm going to order one from these guys too, can't hurt to have an extra one at that price.
Thanks again guys!
Thanks John, no luck there but I found one at a place online called Popperts gun parts.
Sheeesh, who knew I had the rarest gun part in history. Seems like a comon part to me, there has to be millions of Marlin bolt .22/.22mag/.17hmr's that use this part. Guy at a lgs told me I probably would...
I have a old Marlin 980 DL 22 mag that has problems extracting spent shells. While messing with it I broke the hook off the band extractor. Can someone point me to a place to buy another one?
I'm seeing a lot of confusing results from searching the net. Seems like a common part to me but I...
