    Fusion for 7x57 ?

So I picked up a box of 175 gr Federal Fusion soft point bullets for my old 7 x57 mauser. I now realize that those were designed for the 7 mm magnums. Does anyone know if they will expand properly on deer at the slower velocities of the 7x57?

    NY AG

I read that the NY AG sent a letter out to many advertisers to cease selling 80% lowers in the state. Had anyone heard more on this , or is there a thread already going ?

    Vermont is going Down

A week ago I was glad that my state of Vermont had some of the most liberal gun laws in the land. That all changed last Friday when the House of Reps passed S.55. This bill is now being wrung out in the state Senate where it has a majority of support. S.55 will raise the age to purchase a...

    How Long to Hold Grudge

Some people hold grudges longer than others. After all, if someone throws you under the bus you tend to remember that action. I have been thinking about getting a semi auto .22lr pistol. The SW 22 Victory catches my eye ….BUT, I fully remember when they were ready to throw everyone under the bus...

    January Dillon

Reading the Jan. issue of the Dillon catalouge I enjoyed the article about grampa Dillons saddle gun, an 1888 Mauser. The author goes into the history of the 8mm mauser round. He stated that the germans were protective of their 7.92 x 57 and that is why they sold 7x57 amusers to South America...

    Old Ammo Gift

Do we have any "old ammo" cranks here ? I recently had a 90 yr old gal give me an old box of Western Super X 30-06 , 180 gr Power Point ammunition. The box is not mint but in good shape. The cartridges look fine but I am wondering just how old this ammo is? The price sticker is from Jamesway...

    Collection Display

I could not find this in the search so here it is. We are about to move into a house with a full , dry basement ( in rural Vermont ). I am thinking of setting up the basement as my "Man Cave". Think Bert's basement in Tremors :) I would have racks on the walls or possibly a bunch of peg board...

Jacketed Bullets in Full .357 Mag Load

I was crusing the forum reading older posts when I read one that I did not understand. A few people mentioned that you should not use jacketed bullets in max .357 loads. Can anyone tell me why? I can see lead bullets as they tend to melt at those high pressures. But why not jacketed bullets? I...

    Hard to find Parts

I am having a heck of a time finding an ejector rod, tube and screw for a Rohm Model 66 Liberty pistol. I remember hearing of a guy that specializes in obsolete parts but can not remember his name ( Frank maybe? ) . I have been watching Numbrich and even Gunbroker ( but can not afford the prices...

New Rifled Barrel for the 500

My wife found me a nicely used 24" rifled barrel with the cantilever scope base for my 12 ga Mossberg 500. Now I need to find a scope for it! Does anyone have any suggestions on a decent scope that has enough eye relief so I won't go home with a black eye :). Thanks, Burke

    Wal-Mart Got an AR

My wife came home from work yesterday and told me that they received an AR at the WM store she works at.Not sure the make but it lasted ten minutes in the sporting goods dept before being sold. I tried not looking disappointed being that it was Valentines Day and the day before my 50th Birthday...

    Heavy Recoil Scope Mount

I built a 35 Whelen on a Mauser action. I bought the one piece Redfield base where the front ring turns in and the rear is captured in two "cups" so you can adjust the ring left or right. I then put a 3-9x40 illuminated scope on it. Well, after a few shots the "nubs" on the rear ring seared...

How Much Heat is Too Much?

Hello THR. I am getting ready to modify a mauser ( 98) bolt handle. I know you are suppose to use a heat sink & heat control paste because too much heat can soften the "third" lug that is near the handle. My question is just how hot do you have to get that lug to soften it? Are we talking cherry...
