Montana Deer & Elk Hunt October 25 to December 1

This. For me it was a bad headache that wouldn’t go away and then a day later just vanished, but it manifests differently for different folks.

Deer retrieval unit finally done ....lets see yours!

Dump trailers/carts really do work wonderfully. Even if you find the load at midnight, you can haul it by hand without making noise when neighbors are asleep.

    Wyoming Spring Bear

I hunted blackbear in north west Colorado, just over the border from Wyoming. We had a plan, then got there and discovered all the food sources were different from that which we planned to find. This was a fall hunt so I imagine it was nothing like your hunt will be. What it showed me was that a...

Do you use wind flags during load development ?

No I never use flags. I do see the value in them, but I still don’t use them. If I had my own long range shooting facility, maybe. However, I usually use public shooting ranges. Not only that, but just knowing me, that maybe was generous. I still wouldn’t use them. One more thing to pack...

6.5 grendel ammo score this morning

I just got a 6.5 Grendel, and when doing so I went ahead and got dies. I used to make “this rifle has never shot a factory round,” statements as a point of pride. Now, at current prices, it is a point of necessity in the face of affordability. Happy for the OP. Prices are seriously ridiculous now.

Semi Guided Boar Hunt In Exchange For Some Mechanic Work

Lots of people are scared of ca gun laws, and I know I would be worried about it were I interested. Maybe you should sweeten the offer by throwing in a loaner weapon for the hunt. That way a potential taker doesn’t have to worry about accidentally getting in trouble. Obviously that suggestion...

What was your first marksmanship badge of honor? .....

I went to an all inclusive resort for vacation once. Hated it because being stuck in the resort as the wife doesn’t speak Spanish felt like being trapped. Out of boredom I entered and won a BB gun (air rifle) and archery (fairly light weight recurve) competition. The prize was a bottle of rum...

"Upgrades" to a Savage Axis (not an Axis II)

I have not had those experiences with mine, sorry for your experience. Your dad’s savage axis sounds very much like my Remington 700. OP, I second the mcarbo trigger spring kit. It makes an incredible difference.

Need rec's on a sturdy ladder stand

I tend to buy cheap and cry often. So I can’t help you. I do make really nice stands out of wood. Basically decks with a tree near by to break the silhouette.

    Model 70 Featherweight catch

I have a featherweight in .308. I love it. It’s probably tied for my favorite rifle with my vz24. It’s Portuguese, but that doesn’t bother me.

Hornady ELD-X or Barnes LRX for long range Elk?

I’ve shot large animals with both the ttsx and the tsx out of a .300wsm. They killed stuff. I feel like the ttsx is closer to the lrx. If it helps it killed stuff faster. I was using 180grs.

Ruger Mini-14 vs. AR-15 - Which one and why?

I have both, and even though I've thought of selling the mini, I go out and shoot it a time or two and realize I still love it. It doesn't do anything better than an ar15, but it is good in its own right. Being able to fold the stock makes it okay for truck use, but that's not really much of an...

What .308 BA would you buy if you had a $2000 budget for gun and optic?

Oh, my other .308 is a savage 110. It shoots lights out and is an amazing gun. I’d recommend those too were it not for the detachable box magazines they have now. If you like those then savage is always a great choice.

What .308 BA would you buy if you had a $2000 budget for gun and optic?

When I was in your position I got a Winchester 70 featherweight and put a leupold on it. I wish it had a faster twist rate but that’s just because I know it should. Basically, it shoots fine but in the back of my mind I have that nagging, “ I wonder how much better it would be as a 1:10,”...
