629: reduced power main spring or not

I have used the Teddy Jacobson strain screw and it works as noted by Jim Watson. The older method of having an adjustable strain screw that would not back out is to use a screw going in from the bottom of the grip jammed against the strain screw after drilling an taping a hole there. In...

Ruger Redhawk VS Super Redhawk...what say you?

"For me, the factory grip is too small to be useful but too big for any kind of serviceable oversized target grip like the Roper." I agree. At one time had a a Redhawk that I put a Roper style made by Herrett's to fit my hand and it was not all that great. Also, it appears that to fit a...

    The future of revolvers

"1. A redesign of the hammer. There are a number of aftermarket hammers available which lower the inertia of the hammer, allowing for lighter springs. True, many of the guns which use these are uber-tuned "Federal only" gamer guns, but the principle is relevant - all else being equal, a hammer...

    S&W 686 vs. 686 Plus

With regards to speedloaders for the 7 shot guns one must note that there is a copy of the SL Variant German speedloader being made now in the Orient. See below: https://www.slvariant.com/product/l-272/

GP100 Outdoorsman, 357 Magnum, 6" barrel, would you like to see it manufactured?

A bit more info. S&W made a 686 Mtn. Gun that had a catalog weight of 35.5 oz. It did have a 7 shot cylinder, though. A GP100 2.5" 7 shot supposedly has a cat. weight of 36 oz. So, perhaps taking Craig's 6" half lug at 43 oz and fitting a 7 shot cylinder, a lighter top strap on the gun and...

Recommend for the Smoothies Modern Double Action! (Not Korth - too expensive)

I agree with Stonebuster. The triggers are distinctly different on not only lthe S&W and Ruger but also Colt and Dan Wesson. Hammer arc and when the cylinder locks up vary by model.

Lightening a trigger pull in DA

I don't recall the Bullseye Spring Kits having a ribbed mainspring. Generally, the kits Bullseye mad had lighter weight springs than kits from Wolff (who might make the Wilson Kits).

    S&W 686 vs. 686 Plus

Besides HKS, 5 Star, Speed Beez and SL Variant make speedloaders in 7 shot versions. The SL Variants are made in Germany and importation is sort of an on again, off again thing.

    Size of S&W model 10 vs. GP100

At one time John Taffin on a now defunct site listed trigger reach of various revolver sizes. Best I can recall the GP100 and K frame were not too different. The width of the grip will affect trigger reach and as noted above any filler behind the trigger guard. Being the GP uses a grip stud...

    Ruger gp100 357 hammer mod

As others have noted nothing that some sandpaper or file cannot rectify. In times past there were some gunsmiths who welded up the thumb pad and reshaped and enlarged it sort of like on a S&W target hammer. Jim Stroh comes to mind but he is out of business. As to the staginess in double...

    Security Six grips?

The first link you posted of a Six Series with Pau Ferro is exactly what the OP probably wants as he says he hates finger grooves. The second shows Goncalo Alves on a S&W. I was just remarking when I did a search on Hogue rapidly most shown were on S&Ws. I was looking specifically for...

    Security Six grips?

Rule3, ah, you found a picture of a Six Series with the grooveless grips. I did find some but were shown on S&W's. I have had a number of Hogues without the grooves on my Rugers but not on a Six Series. When selecting certain woods and configurations if you have a Hogue made to fit your hand...

    Security Six grips?

You might consider Hogue. They do offer the option of ordering WITHOUT finger grooves and in different wood species and one can even have them sized to fit his hand if ordered directly from Hogue. Here is a link to their site...

    Ruger hammer spring

The mainsprings Wolff offers for the GP/SP/SRH will also work in the Six Series. When I had my Speed Six I put in the 9lb mainspring and it worked, however, it had been tuned by a gunsmith and firing pin protrusion set to 0.055". The latter plus endshake and headspace will govern what weight...

    Ruger GP100 “Single Action”

"I am not sure about the hammer dog plunger and spring, items 43 & 44." PatRiot I would remove #43 and #44, too, otherwise might float around in the action until one puts the gun back in all one piece with the hammer dog. I seem to recall some years ago when they were still making Dan Wesson...

    New colt python

Late 1990's and early 2000's had a 4" SS Python I bought new for as I recall around $700. Sent it off to Walt Sherman for a roller action tune and then to another well know 'smith (forget his name) for some metal work. After all was said and done think I might have had $1500 in it but for some...

    7 shot GP 100

"I don’t really like the idea from a design standpoint, but if it works..." That is why I was surprised Ruger adopted the idea. Wonder what happened to the engineer that came up with idea of 7 shots without seeing if it would actually work out? RioMouse has a good idea with checking the ammo...

    7 shot GP 100

"I know at first there were issues with rim lock. Can owners chime in on this and what 38 special + p ammunition is less likely to cause this issue?" Went through a couple of threads on the 7 shot GP's. Seems the big problem was with Winchester White Box ammo. On the early 7 shot models some...

    7 shot GP 100

"I hope they adjusted the angle of the crane to compensate, or something similar..." Per the gunsmith post he stated the bullet would exit the cylinder mouth at a very slight angle and the forcing cone of the barrel "adjusted" it to go down the barrel with no apparent problems. The chamber...
