most reliable .22 semiauto with target loads?

Yep...best bang for the buck is the Marlin 60. If money is not a factor, Volquartsen Custom.

    Sabre Defense vs. DPMS

Get it...even if it's used, it's worth what they're asking. Sabre Defence is one of the most overlooked manufacturers out there, and they make top-tier stuff. Here's my newest Sabre...and I chose it over a Colt:

Marlin Model 60 or a Henry Lever?

Good choice not going with the 10/22...just as you said, it takes some cash and a few aftermarket parts to get it to tack-driver capable. I have a Marlin 60 with a cheap BSA .22 scope on it, and it shoots 1" ragged holes @ 50yrds easily with crap Federal bulk ammo (and the cheap scope). With...

    Failures to Extract

+1 The BCM extractor upgrade is great...I every AR I own has that kit installed. This is the the way I test an AR extractor: If you can squeeze the extractor & bolt together with your fingers alone and insert the extractor pin, there's not enough tension. With the BCM kit, the spring/Crane...

    First AR-15

Unless you want to get nit-picky or be an AR snob, any of the big names will do the job. I've seen some fine Colts fail, yet my Bushmaster that some look down on has never missed a beat. Do I hate Colts now? Nope...any AR from any manufacturer can fail. I have shot some damn awesome groups...

    Nylon or bronze brush?

Bronze for the bore, steel for the chamber, nylon for the inside of receivers, bolts, magwells, etc.
  7. T

are these cleaning tips even good?

The bronze brushes are fine...it's the steel brushes you usually don't want to run down the bore. Steel is safe for the chambers in your rifles and semi-auto handguns, and the cylinders in your revolvers, but never run steel brushes down the bore of anything unless you absolutely have to. I've...

AR 15 (5.56) versus 12ga Shotgun for HD

This has been debated before, but here's my honest opinion: For inside the home, nothing is going to be more devastating than a HD shotgun. I have an AR too, but I'd grab the 18" I/C choked Mossberg loaded with 00 buck first. With 2.75" shells, I'm putting 9 pellets into my target with every...

Sniper, rifle, what do I need...

He didn't say he wanted to be a sniper, he said he wanted a sniper rifle, which is nothing more than a very accurate rifle capable of precise shots. Why all the BS in this thread over him using the term "sniper rifle"? :banghead:

    AR-15 Thread

Stock except for an RRA 2-stage trigger. Does the job and does it well. My Bushy XM15-E2S Heavy Barrel.

    New AR

When Beretta released the Cx4 Storm, I was slightly tempted to buy one but I cannot for the life of me ever persuade myself to buy a long-gun in a pistol caliber (except for .22 rifles of course). I see your boy is shooting it though, and that would actually be the perfect reason for me to buy...

What happens if you shoot .222 Rem in a .223 Rem rifle?

Hmm...well maybe it was a regular .222 Rem after all. This was years ago so I don't really remember if it was a .222 Rem or the .222 Rem Mag. Thanks for the test 35 Whelen, I knew I wasn't going crazy...yet. :D

What happens if you shoot .222 Rem in a .223 Rem rifle?

I'm wasn't referring to the .223 Rem & 5.56. I was referring to the .222 Rem, but upon further research it seems the .222 I saw interchange was probably the .222 Rem Magnum, and not the standard .222 Rem. Here's the article I found that cleared it up...

What happens if you shoot .222 Rem in a .223 Rem rifle?

I've seen both of them interchange, but it probably depends on the rifles used. I'm sure they don't in all rifles.

What happens if you shoot .222 Rem in a .223 Rem rifle?

A .223 will chamber in a .222 rifle, but if fired the .223 case will blow.

    22 Magnum Rifles

I'm the same as you. I use a Marlin model 60 .22lr semi-auto for small game hunting and varmints (feral cats, armadillos, coons, rabbits, squirrels, possums, etc..) Anything that Marlin won't handle I reach for the Mossberg 500 18" I/C choked w/ 00 buck or the AR-15. The .22WMR is a fine...

    S&W 610 is back!

I totally agree , that's why I haven't purchased a new S&W with the lock since they started making them. I am glad people are still buying new ones though, more vintage pre-locks for me. :D

    Smith 500 blown up

True, but it can be the opposite sometimes. A gun can blow up due to faulty ammo or a weak area in the gun itself. Yeah, usually it's the ammo but there's plenty of guns out there that have blown apart with factory loads.

    S&W 610 is back!

    I already have a 1978 pre-lock N-frame .357. A 10mm revolver with a lock? No thanks. :scrutiny:

    Personal experiences with the 10mm?

Ah I see...so you weren't actually hunting with it but wanting to know what it was capable of taking down. Realistically you could take a bear with it if you had to, it's not too shabby for an autoloader cartridge. But.. If you're wanting to know if it's worth switching from a 6" 10mm to a...
