So you're saying it's paranoid to put on some III-A or II body armor when you hear a window break in your house? Or you're taking out large sums of money? I'd rather be safe and paranoid than dead.

Sounds like you did good. Deescalation is always best. Anyone know of the laws in NC on issuing a verbal warning that you are armed and won't hesitate to shoot if they don't stop what they're doing?
You'd be surprised what lows human beings can reach.
I remember a home invasion not too long ago (3-4 months?) where a well organized group of 4(?) men or so entered a couples house and killed them with children present. To ignore this fact is to ignore reality.
