1911

Question about 1911: The barrels are all same size?

Are all the different caliber barrels interchangeable with a different caliber model? I heard the 1911 specs are all the same regardless of the caliber (expect a few minor differences like extractors and what not). Would a .357 Sig barrel fit right in a standard .45 ACP 1911? And vice verse?

    80 Percent 1911s?

A friend asked me if I'd like to make my own 1911 from scratch. As a famous imaginary law enforcement officer said, "a man's gotta know his limitations," and at first glance, I think building a 1911 falls outside mine. However, I am kind of fascinated by the idea and wondered what wisdom the...

Kimber failure to go into battery

I just purchased a used Kimber, a Custom LW full-size with an aluminum frame in .45 acp. I shot about 100 rds through it this weekend. I had a malfunction twice, the same failure to go fully into battery. Now, this was NOT a failure of the round to go into the chamber. both times the round was...

    Kimber Sight Question

I just purchased my first 1911, a used Kimber Custom LW. I have a few questions, that may be old info to some, or my gun may have a problem. The first is that the gun was pretty consistently hitting high, about 6-7 inches at 25 yard. The sight picture is weird. The red dot in the front sight is...

Rock Island Armory: Rock Standard FS 1911

I just picked up a Rock Island Armory Rock Standard FS 1911. Does anybody know if the sights are true Novak Style? Does anyone else have this gun, and what sights have you put on it? What other upgrades have you guys done to your Rock Standard FSs? I hate ambi safeties, so I ground down the...

    1911 questions

Hello my good fellows A couple of 1911 questions for you 1911 guys Arched vs flat main spring housings: is there a different other than the obvious? Can you interchange them without changing any other parts? On my 1911, when it ejects brass it puts a tiny kink into the case. Are these cases...

    45ACP carbine heavy loads

I have 2 requirements. Be heavy as possible. Still fit in a 1911 mag. Would like the carbine rounds to still be usable in the 1911. I loaded up a test batch of really cheap 250gr hollow jacketed points to test around 15 years ago in a 1911. The recoil was noticeably worse than 230gr which was...

    Springfield Range Officer magazine issue

While I have limited range time and no malfunctions with the Range Officer 9mm, I am concerned that the magazine seems to barely be holding onto the next round after cycling. When I eject the magazine after chambering a round, a round always comes tumbling out after the magazine. Has anyone...

Springfield compact 1911 9mm grip options

I have a Springfield Range Officer Compact 1911 in 9mm, and want to fill the grips out a little bit. Thin is good for concealment, but I'd like something in the Hogue/Pachmayr family to make the grip a little more hand-friendly. I am not sure if the 9mm grip-width is different from the 45acp...

    AR pistol, and 1911 problems

Hey guys. My last 2 guns were a 10" 5.56 AR pistol build, and a Tisas 1911a1. Took them both to the range today and had issues with both. To stay let me say, this it's my second AR build, but my first pistol build. It's an Anderson lower with Anderson LPK, SBA3, 3oz carbine buffer, Bear Creek...

1911 hammer bite, and other 1911 questions

Hey guys, I made a post before about Rock Island Armory 1911s, and heard many good things about them. I saw that Tisas SDS imported A1 1911, which also has good reviews. I'm not buying a 1911 to be a "1911 guy", I just want one because America, and I feel like everyone should own one. So I'm...

Rebluing 1971 Colt Gold Cup NM

Before I send my Gold Cup to Colt, how is their National Match bluing job? Is it anything different / worse compared to the original 1970s Colt NM finish?

Thoughts on a mid priced 1911 in .45?

I figured I would use my current "at home" time to figure out my next pistol purchase. I currently have two 1911s - a Kimber in 9 mm and a Springfield in .45. I'd like to add a third pistol in .45 as well with a 5" barrel and a full size frame. I am looking to spend around $800-$1200, with my...

I found myself an old 1911 but have no clue what I got.

New in 1994, seems tight. I just don't know what to look at, what to look for, how to assess it, other than that it's worth what i paid. Previous owner told me he'd been feeding it a steady diet of 175 grs SWC, WC edge flush with shell, and 4.5 grs Vihtavuori N-320.

    Rock Island 1911s...

So I am looking to get into the 1911 world. This wouldn't be a carry gun or a home defense gun, but a bit of Americana. I just want a cheap 1911 to have a 1911. It wouldn't be my main hand gun. I saw the Rock Island Armory GI M1911 replica, and it seemed pretty nice, I especially liked that...

Looking for longer slide stop plunger 1911

Have an uncommon but not unheard of problem with a new colt gov 1911. The little plunger, that interacts with the slide stop, to keep the slide stop down while firing, is too short. It just barley touches the slide stop allowing it to flop around freely. This is giving me some of the expected...

Rock Island 1911 45 odd feature.

So I couldn’t seem to find anything else on this problem so I don’t know if it is specific to this one gun or if there are more like it. ok so not my gun but a friends RIA 1911 has an odd malfunction (I call it a malfunction because it makes the gun less safe in my opinion) where if the gun is...

    Preferred 1911 grips?

Been thinking of getting some rubber hogue grips for my SR1911, the wood just doesn't have the grip I'm looking for. What do you guys like?

    First 1911, Gangster style

Since I have been getting more and more into guns and building up my collection of them. I knew I had to have a 1911, but since I’m a younging and as some of y’all older gents know. We have to be different and unique about things. So a .45 wouldn’t just do ( don’t worry, still gonna get one!) I...

    DW Heritage click-test FAIL

My DW Heritage failed one part of the click-test (thumb safety) when I checked it today. It’s about 3 yrs old, very tight, accurate shooter, just a fine pistol. Should I be concerned? click-test as described on Cylinder & Slide web site: https://www.cylinder-slide.com/1911safetyck.shtml It...
