Accurate #2, .45 ACP 200 gr RN (plated)

Hello. I have a quick reloading question that I hope someone can help me with. I'm loading 200 gr .45 Auto RN using Clean Shot for the first time (I typically use n340 but haven't been able to find it anywhere, so I went with Clean Shot), and I don't know how much powder to use. I've been...

Changing load data for new primer and bullet .45 acp

Hi all, quick question. Rmr was out of 45 acp bullets so I ordered Zero's 230gr fmj. I ran out of cci and remington lpp and I'm starting to load with win lpp. My current loads are 5gr bullseye or 5.5gr hp38 at 1.260-1.265. Should I back my charge weights down a bit because of component changes...

    Will .45 +P, .45 Super and .45 Colt +P have commercial success?

It seems that high pressure cartridges that are designed not to chamber in barrels that are marked for their low-pressure equivalents, do better on the market. Eg .44 Mag, .357 Mag. But for .45 ACP and .45 Colt, their +P equivalents are not designed 'not-to-chamber' in pre 90s guns. That in, my...

Which Handgun Caliber(s) Do You Think Would Be the Last To Go Extinct? The First?

Specifically the "common" calibers seen in the USA. In my opinion, I feel like 9mm would be the #1 caliber that isn't going anywhere, any time soon. Along with 9mm, I'd also throw in .357 mag, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .38 Spl, and .380 ACP. I feel that calibers like .25 ACP and .32 ACP have the...

Common caliber question finally settled once and for all time

Thought this was the most understandable, fair and real world test I've seen and will surely start no controversy by settling that age old question once and for all time:

    New N-Frame in the fold

I stopped by my LGS and as soon as I walked in the guys all smiled and said, "We have a new N-Frame here; figured you would like it." It is a 3" 625-3 Model of 1989 in .45 ACP. It lacks the original stocks but is in great shape. I paid more than I wanted to, but it is one of the revolvers I...

    Interesting Caliber Momentum Comparison

I was just thinking, isn't it weird that when comparing .556 and .45 ACP, even though the a 16" .556 has over 3x the power of a 5" .45 ACP (1174 vs 378 Ft/Lbs energy), that the .45 actually has more momentum. Not that that does or doesn't count for anything, but if comparing a 55 Gr .556 and 230...

Just bought my first black powder gun. Some advice on projectiles?

I just clicked the button to buy an in-line .54-caliber rifle. I feel like you need to have one of just about every single type of gun if you want to be able to shoot anything sometimes. (I sure am glad I stockpiled .22LR after the big ammo shortage of 2008-2016 now!) But I had actually planned...

    Taurus pt 24/7 oss ds45

Lately ive been looking into a high capacity .45 acp handgun. Not big on the glocks but my search has lead me to the taurus pt 24/7 oss ds45. 12+1 capacity, novak sights, iv heard its a sa/da trigger with a decocker. It all sounds pretty decent, but id imagine theres got to be a catch. Is this...

    I Think I Want An HK45C

Basically, exactly as the title says. I've wanted some flavor of H&K pistol for quite a while, but always stepped back before taking the plunge. After some rather unpleasant recent life upheaval, I'm back at the edge wanting to jump into the world of HK. I'm already prepared for the expensive...

Your Favorite Semi-Auto Pistol Caliber and Why

I'm just having the 9mm blues slowly changing out all of my semi-auto pistol calibers to 9mm. It first started as a cost thing and now has accelerated with all of the new goodies (e.g. Rx optics, Sig phosphate coatings on their service pistols, etc) coming in 9mm only. My favorite revolver...

    LE Department Ammo Choices

I'm not a LEO and never have been. I do factor in what I perceive departments use but my info is based on blogs like THR and educated guesses as well as a lot of gelatin terminal performance studies. For 115 gr. 9mm standard pressure I have settled on 115 gr. Gold Dot in my 'mouse guns'. For...

    pump-action .45 ACP carbine

Searching google for pump .45 acp 1st hit was this old thread so I thought I would revive it. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/magazine-fed-pump-action-45-acp-carbine.472121/ Coming from anti semi auto territories up north, This is right up my alley. Anyone thought of converting...

Pistol caliber carbine poll / semi-autos only

Which currently made semi-auto pistol caliber carbine would you want if you were in the market for one? Chambered for any auto-loading centerfire pistol cartridge, but many in the poll are 9mm only. What I've listed are 16"+ barreled versions. Please add comments about SBR versions if that is...

    Thompson in Vietnam

Hello THR, I was wondering if anyone had any information on the use of the .45 Cal Thompson SMG in Vietnam! It's effectiveness in CQB, stopping power, reliability etc. I knew Thompsons were used in Vietnam, but was just curious if any Vietnam Veterans here used them, or saw any being carried...

Next rookie ? .45 ACP small primers or large?

Ok so today I was prepping to load for .45 ACP for the first time. I changed out the Primer feed system in Hornady LNL AP for large primers and as I was sorting my cases and inspecting them I realized half my cases (Speer and Blazer) had small primer holes in them and the rest a mix of (PMC...

SAR K2 .45 - Just Picked this up

I ordered this from CDNN and picked it up from a local dealer that was recommended to me. So far, without having shot it, I'm impressed. For less than $400 shipped, this thing is stout, well made, and feels amazing in my hands. I thought it would be big in my med-large hands, but it's just...

    Sig Sauer Platinum Carry 1911?

Been a long time since I last checked out this site, but I need some help deciding on this handgun. I bought my first 1911-style handgun about 5 months ago. A used Metro Arms American Classic II, relatively inexpensive and comes in as, what I believe from reviews and personal use, about the...

Why small primers in .45 ACP?

Please excuse me if this has been asked here before, but I have seen people advertising .45 ACP with small pistol primers. Is there some accuracy issue here? Seems to me as if large pistol primers would be better for igniting a case full of powder.
