'03 sighting question

Last weekend we had a "Doughboy" match shooting '03s at 200 yards at the ISRA range downstate.

I tend to use the "peep" under the "Christmas tree" at 200 yards for accuracy, but I know some folks were using the notch at the bottom of the "tree" set for the distance. I'm assuming faster target acquisition for the rapid fire portion of the match?

I shoot lefty and getting 10 rounds off rapid fire in 70 seconds with a reload on a bolt action on the "wrong" shoulder is tough enough for me as it is. If the notch works better for some folks and speeds up sighting I'm willing to give it a try next time around.

Any other experiences, thoughts or preferences?

I know firsthand the challenges of shooting left handed the rapidfire stages. I ended up with 8 shells down the front of my coat!

I can't say which will work best for you, but I will say that in the old days, the rapidfire stages were required to be fired using the battlesight (547yd zero) and all used a low hold on the very low part of the target frame.

I replaced the standard sights on my '03 with a set of replica USMC No.10 sights. The front sight blade is .10" wide and there is only one peep on the rear slide, which is also .10" wide.

I too shoot lefty and now picking up the sights in the rapid fire strings is much easier.
