1 MOA accuracy with my SRH

Went to the range today to prepare for this weekend's porcine popping. I brought some Georgia Arms 240 gr. JHP and Remington 275 gr. Core-Loct JHP. Fairly good accuracy with the GA, around 1.5 MOA. Then I tried the Remington and was very impressed. One shot for adjustment and a 3-shot group at 1 MOA. I'm pretty happy with the results. Hopefully I'll bring home the bacon on Saturday.

BTW, the setup was a SRH in .44 mag with a 9.5" barrel and topped with a B&L 2-6X handgun scope. All groups at 50 yards off a benchrest.

240gr HP-XTPs, H-110 and a SRH 9 1/2" with a 2x6 scope off a rest at 100 yards couple of high and low flyers though. It was my first trip out this year with the SRH.

I know. The 3-shot group was 0.5" at 50 yards.

Sorry rock jock, but I gotta jump in here and question the "0.5 inch" group. The two holes that are just touching have to be somewhere around 0.4" assuming the usual .429" diam. 44 bullet. The third shot is obviously much more distant from those two than 0.1" Are you sure you're measuring center to center of the two holes that are furthest apart?

Even so, that is some damn fine shooting combined with a very accurate revolver and load.

First of all, let me say that is better than I've ever been able to do with my SRH.

Second, unless I'm badly mistaken, the centers of the two holes that are farthest apart in the 3 shot group are almost exactly twice the distance apart as the size of the holes. That means for the group to be a 0.5" group, the holes would have to be 0.25" or less in diameter. So, at first glance it would seem that rock jock has fudged his numbers a bit.

BUT...


...I happen to have a target shot with my SRH and the holes in the paper are exactly 0.25" (group is considerably larger than 0.5" though and at much closer range )

So, in spite of my first impression of the group, it is entirely possible that the group is, indeed, 0.5" ctc and therefore 1 MOA.

No matter how you measure it or what it's called, that's still very good shooting.

By George, I believe you're right, JohnKSa. I just found a target I've shot with my SRH and measured the actual hole size. I was very surprised to find mine were .275" - a lot less than the nominal .429". Obviously different target material will yield different size holes.

Rock jock, I no longer question your MOA measurement. But I still stand by the final sentence in my post.

In all fairness, I was getting ready to cry "BS" myself. If you read my post right up until the "So, at first..." you can see exactly where I was going.

Just before hitting "Post Reply", I remembered I had some targets shot with a .44 mag and decided to check one...

Yeah, those "shoot'n'see" targets have a pretty tough plastic that usually gives a hole the size of the hollow of a JHP rather than the full caliber.

You know, I didn't think about that, but the holes are definitely much smaller than 0.429". I should have clued into that fact when I measured the group. As an update, I didn't have the opportunity to shoot anything afterall, so no porky pig in the pot.
