I have a chance to pick up a used 12 guage in a trade. My concern is that it is chambered only for 2 3/4" shells. I hunt deer, squirrel, rabbit and turkey. Is being limited to only 2 3/4" shells going to decrease my hunting effectiveness greatly in comparison to what 3" ammunition can do?

Not really, all 3 inch, or even 3.5 inch allow to do is shoot a greater volume of shot. Speed and distance aren't increased that much. I have used plenty of 2 3/4 inch shells in my 870 super mag to kill game. I never felt under gunned.

You'll be fine with the 2 3/4" chamber.

Actually, I had an 870 express magnum that patterned better with 2 3/4" turkey loads than 3" did out of that gun.
