I just received my Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital Chronograph. This is one of the best investments I have made as far as my reloading tools. And it was only $95 including shipping at Amazon.

So I was able to finally verify my hand loads, and am pleased with the results.

The following test results were using 147 Gr Polycoated bullets (.356”) from Eggleston Munitions and Alliant Powder’s Power Pistol, shooting through a full size M&P 9.

With 4.3 Gr at OAL 1.14” – Ten shot average 966 fps – PF 142.00

With 3.7 Gr at OAL 1.14” – Ten shot average 875 fps – PF 128.77

The lower charge is what I shoot suppressed, which works very well. But the above test was unsuppressed. The hotter load produces too much splash back suppressed, but works great in my unsuppressed M&P full size, compact and Shield.

Next I want to verify the 3.7 Gr load through the M&P 9 suppressed.
EDIT 08/03/17 - With 3.7 Gr at OAL 1.14” – Ten shot average 908 fps – PF 133.48 (suppressed)

And I cannot wait to verify some of my 300 BLK hand loads!

Note – When developing my loads above, I based my starting point from the Hornady Handbook (9th edition) load data for Power Pistol, using their FMJ-RN. Their listed starting point is 3.5 Gr (750 fps) with a max of 5.1 Gr (1000 fps). Before verifying with the Chronograph, I had started at 3.5 Gr and worked up to what worked best suppressed and unsuppressed. Obviously the coated bullets are faster than the FMJ and it did not take long for me to find satisfactory loads.
