$150 for a BOX!?

I don't know about this particular firearm but a lot of collectors only go after guns in the orginal box and box contents.

Maybe the buyer has this gun but no box and can increase the value of the package more than the cost of the box.

Actually, I know the seller. I didn't want to promote anything so I didn't mention it earlier.

There was a Navy competition shooter named Jim(?) Orlando who lived in Virginia. He passed away. The guy's sister called him up and asked him if he'd like a bunch of "gun stuff." The guy, being a gun nut, said "Why shore!

Among other things, there were several boxes of .45acp and .22, grips (brown plastic), several WWII magazines for the 1911 made by Colt or Colt contractors, several M1 mags, and a few other goodies including his nameplate from his cabin door aboard his ship.

There was no Gold Cup, which really irritated this guy, because he guessed what happened: The kids, having no interest in firearms, probably pawned the thing for a fraction of its worth and looked to dispose of what they could not sell. It was likely a very sad thing.

But rest assured, the guy does not have the Gold Cup.

A collector in Louisiana paid $4,000 for a Registered Magnum box. It was original to a gun he had bought.

The boxes are much harder to find than the guns and collectors want the guns in the original boxes. It's that simple. Demand for the hard to find boxes drives the prices up. If having the box isn't important to you, then you don't care what they cost.

I'd be willing to bet that it adds more than $200 to the value of a gun currently without a box.

I have the same box, along with the target, plus the gun (99%) to go with it. I had been thinking about selling it to fund another purchase, but think I will wait a little while now. My price is certainly going to be a little higher once I decide to sell it now that I see what the box is worth!:):)

I've seen many boxes go for over $500.
The most expensive box that I can recall on E-Bay was for an old Colt 1911 and it went for $1600. Really.

I bought a NIB 1968 colt Python from my neighbor for $600. It had the original wooden grips and a pair of pachmyer rubber grips.

I sold the box and papers in ebay for $450., and the wooden grips too for $275.

Now I have a nice Python for free and got paid $125. to keep it.

The heck with collecting guns for value, I collect them to try out.
