I remember a recent post where folks were lamenting about the short supply of 17 HMR rifle. Well I was at the local Walmart today and saw they were stocking CCI brand 17 HMR ammo for something like $9.96 a 50rd box. They probably had 2k on hand.

Oh and they also had the Marlin bull barreled rifle for it at $178.00. I'm seriously thinking of going back and getting that one.:D

The Hornady, and the Remington offerings in .17 HMR are in short supply. Most places I've checked have been either back ordered on these, or they're gouging ($12.00 and up for a box). The CCI .17 HMR does seem to be the most common these days, so perhaps I'll buy a brick.

I just ordered some ammo from Cascade out in Oregon and asked what was that status of my November 2002 order for Hornady 17 HMR. I was told that it would still be a couple of months until they fill it. Haven't checked Wal Mart around here yet to see if they have any. I have the Mrlin 17VS. Sweet shooter (when I something to feed it :D ).

I'v been seeing a lot of the CCI stuff here, often enough that I'v quit buying every time I run across it.Usually 8.49-$8.99. No Hornady Or Remington though.

The local Gander Mountain here seems to have plenty of CCI and Remington but no Hornady. $9.99/box. Mid South Shooters Supply seems to have the least expensive but it has to be backordered. $7.72/box. I ordered 10 boxes in mid May and expect to see them mid August. Not that bad of a wait for the price. :D

Is the design of the cartridge something that is able to be patented? It's just a necked down .22 mag. I don't understand why another company doesn't start making this stuff. Aguila or Wolf or Dynamit Nobel or Eley or Remington anybody... Right now CCI is it. They make all of it. This is the #1 reason I'm holding back. I recently made the decision agains a CZ-452 in .17 and went with the 527 in .223. I can buy .223 as cheap as the .17 and I can reload it. Now I now they are totally different rounds, but I was just interested in punching paper out to 300 yards.

Why is it that people complain about the cost of .22Mag ammo (usu. $5-7 per box) but are willing to pay $9-12 per box for .17HMR?...

Been around guns long? People pay a lot more $$ for a cartridge very similar to a mass-produced one all the time, either for personal preference for the round. .41 Mag instead of .44 Mag comes to mind.

I agree that there's not a huge difference between .22mag and .17hmr but there's a neato factor shooting a .17 bullet that's awful tempting for a lot of shooters.

Got slammed for 12. I waited so darn long just to get the ammo so I didn't care about the price. Now I have little time to get to the range.:(
