.17 Remington

Just bought my 25th or 26th set of dies, this one in .17 Remington. I figured I need to try this caliber due to the dammage a .223 did to a coyote last week.

Besides needing a new powder funnel (on order from Midway) is there any other thing out of the ordinary I need to know about loading for a .17?

Its a bit harder to check powder levels when looking down that teeny hole. Powder takes a bit longer to fall through the tiny funnel. Small differences in powder charge will have more effect on velocity that they would on a bigger (heavier) bullet.

Other than that, its about the same as any other centerfire rifle round.

Use a different style of bullet in the 223.

17's are a pain to reload, but, they are fun to shoot. NO recoil and blazing speed.

Since the mouth of the case is so small, be careful when you put the bullet on the charged case and guide it into your seating die. I've seen the mouth of a case deform when the edge of the bullet caught the mouth of the case.
