Not quite sure where to put this but this seemed like a logical place. I have a Pietta 1851 Navy Colt that I am wondering about getting a 38spl conversion cylinder. I have read where I will need to use 148gr HBWC or another type whose name escapes me. The other option is to reline the barrel to make it 357. Does anyone have any knowledge of how one goes about converting an 1851? If relining is an option, who does this kind of work? Sounds like a pricey deal. Does anyone know if when using a HBWC does it shoot accurately at all? Seems like the wadcutter has to expand quite a bit to engage the rifling. If anyone knows or can point me in a reliable direction I would appreciate it greatly!!

Just put a 38 barrel on it. MIne is actualy a 9mm barrel. It measures .355
The cylinder measures .357 and I shoot a .360 dia ball. I always thought of
putting a converson cylinder on mine for 38's. I bet it would shoot just fine.

Do my eyes deceive me, or do you have some gorgeous maple grips on that Rem?
Where'd ya get 'em?
I have some myrtle, mahogany, and hard, red cedar (seems oxymoronic, I know) that I'd like to get made into grips for my Piettas and EAA Big Bore Bounty Hunter.

I'd like to get a .36 Pietta Rem and put a .38 special cyl in it.

Phil,

With a Colt '51 Navy, relining is the cheapest option as a custom barrel assy. would cost more I would think.
I suppose a talented machinist COULD cut off the original barrel of a Colt '51 at the junction of the barrel to the bolster, drill out and thread what is left and then fit a new barrel to it. Big $$$$$ though.

ChasMack,
For the info you were inquiring about in your last post around
6 am this morning.... there is a black powder firearms store here in
Orlando, Florida called "Buffalo Bills shooting store" phone # (407) 896-6793
and I am certain they can answer your question. Good Luck!
