Just got a used Remington 1858 that I took it apart to clean ( mild rust issues) and can't get it back together right. Is there something I'm missing about the way the spring seats on the hammer?

Thanks, TerryBob,
I can see where the parts go - just can't get them to go together right. Anyone know of a book or manual that would help?

Grasp the bottom of the mainspring with a pair of pliers. Position the top under the hammer, and then bow the spring with the pliers so that you can start the spring into its seat (slot) at the bottom of the grip-frame. After the spring is started drive it the rest of the way with a plastic headed hammer. Finely replace the strain screw in the lower/front of the grip-frame.

Trouble is, you young folks weren't around in 1858 like I was ......

Or was it 1958 ??????????

Gee, when you get old things like dates aren't as clear as they used to be.

Old Fluff, it was 1958 .... B.C.
Didn't we meet at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C.? We sure whipped some Persian butt that day, eh? :D
