I just picked up this Marlin 18895 guide gun with a Leopold 1-4X scope and 210 rounds of factory ammo for $600. It's JM stamped and the serial number dates it to 1998. Needless to say I'm pleased! I've wanted a 45-70 for a couple of years now and am very happy to have found this one. I hope to be able to try it out on Monday.

The guy had a $650 tag on it. I would probably have paid that but I figured nobody at a gun show ever prices their guns at their actual expected price. I offered $600 and figured we would meet in the middle, but he took the offer. I think his wife was happy just because she didn’t want to carry the ammo back to the car. :)

Good deal.

I wonder if the guy that sold it had 210 rounds because he originally bought 220 rounds when he bought the gun, fired 10 rounds and didn’t like the recoil?

That’s how a friend of mine got his. The guy sold it to him after 5 rounds of 360 grain hunting loads.

You pretty much got a free scope and ammo. That's a great deal. I don't really need one, but would have jumped on it if I had the funds available.

There was a shop I used to frequent that had a 460 Weatherby and a box of full power factory ammo. Ever so often it would disappear off the wall, then in a few months it would show back up with 2-3 rounds missing from the box. I think he sold that gun to at least five different people over the course of 10 years.

That is a great deal on one of my favorite rifles! I am sure you will love that one.

Nice, you got the factory ported model to boot!

I have the same rifle, mine is of 1996 vintage I believe. I put a Lyman peep on the receiver and never looked back.

Looks like you did very well .

Stay safe.

I bought a Lyman turret press, lee hand loader, and a a dozen boxes of bullets and a few thousand pieces of brass at a swap meet. The sellers wife was there and was quite pleased I was taking a bunch of heavy stuff.

Did you get a bill of sale, because he could accuse you of stealing.

Man, wish I had that kind of luck down here. I started avoiding gunshows because the vendors always want to sell their used inventory at new firearm prices. It's like "I'll buy these shoot it a few hundred times or thousand times and than sell it for the same price or more that I paid for". Great find, congratulations!

The 45-70 is so easy to reload.
Trailboss, unique, 3031, AA2015, 4350, AA5744, 2400...

So many levels, from bp roundball poppers to T-Rex droppers.

WOW! Sounds like somebody was just trying to get the money he paid in 98/99 back out of it! Or it was somebody that bought it dirt cheap and thought he was making out like a bandit at $600!
