Instead of creating 100 different threads and beating around the bush, I decided to finally create one thread where I can ask questions about a future 1911 build.

What do you guys think about a Caspian frame? Is there anything wrong with the frame. I don't care about checkering or crazy mag well flares or anything of the sort. I can get a no frills Caspian frame from Brownells for $190. I noticed it doesn't have a plunger tube installed, so I guess I would need the tube and the flaring tool.

Also, I believe that Caspian frame has a feed ramp built into it. The 1911 I've used growing up has the same style. Is this the best way to go? Would it be easier to build a 1911 with a feed ramp built into the frame or as a part of the barrel?

Go to Caspian's site and do some research. They offer a variety of frames both ramped and unramped. They'll also install the plunger tube or sell you a model with in integral tube. Other options include the grip bushings and sight cuts. They also from time to time have production over runs at a discount.

Foster is their parent company and their web site usually has a variety of minor blem frames/slides (often impossible to detect the blem) and additional excess production at a discount. They'll also install options at a reasonable price.

I do not think there are any design advantages or disadvantages to either a feed ramp style. I personally prefer the ramp integral to the frame. I think it makes barrel fitting easier.

Next issue: slides with pre-cut sight dovetails.

What are the easiest sights to install? Would a front dovetail be easier to install than the traditional (I believe) sights that you have to install, stake, then grind out the excess from below the front sight. I've never installed or removed any sights before.
