I came across a deal I could not pass up from a friend on a Taurus PT1911 in 9mm. The previous owner disliked the grips safety enough to grind it down enough that it no longer prevents the trigger from being pulled. What drop in
(or requiring the least fitting) grip safety will work? Thanks.

Hopefully you got a good enough deal on a gun that won't shoot. I guess your buddy figured he'd unload the gun he royally screwed up.

I dislike grip safeties, but no enough to start hacking on them.

You could call Taurus and see if they will sell you the grip safety for that model. If might not need any fitting if it is the same model.

Assuming Taurus (I do not own one) used Standard 1911 Parts) including the grip safety they should be a common standard 1911 part. It all depends on what someone decided to grind down. Take the gun down and look for exactly what was done by Bubba.

A Wilson combat standard part will work but must be fitted to the gun. If you want a more easily fitted part, ask Taurus CS.

The only thing modified on the gun was the grip safety itself. The previous owner had limited ability in his hand and could not reliably deactivate the safety. I am going to give Taurus a call and see what they say.

It will shoot, the grip safety is just deactivated.

The grip safety on the Taurus looks pretty common. I would think many aftermarket ones would drop in, but I don't know that for a fact.

If you have a buddy that can weld little stuff, it can be welded up and re-cut with a file.

Calling Taurus sounds like a good idea.

Just got off the phone with Taurus. Very nice and helpful customer service. The part will be delivered by the end of the week. I realize this is by no means a high end firearm but it's nice to see company's be go out of their way to help even when there was no fault of their own.

I had a PT1911B-1 and had a problem with a grip screw and a grip. Taurus sent me the grip screw, a new bushing, and a both grips. This was the first time I ever had to call Taurus CS, and they treated me well. I since sold the 1911B-1, but own 4 other Taurus guns.

Did Taurus send you the grip safety no charge?

From what I have been reading, Taurus is doing a lot to improve CS and QC.

WHAT? Good Taurus CS comments?! No worry, I'm sure the bashers wil be along anon......:uhoh:

Having dealt with Taurus CS at the shop was yet another factor in my choices when I bought my PT1911AR and PT145.......haven't had to use them yet for my guns....glad they resolved your problem even though they wouldn't have had to.
