Hello all, my question is if anyone knows if the new blued colt guns are high gloss finishes. On their website they only describe them as being blued carbon steel. I love high gloss guns. Many aren't made with that finish anymore but instead have a less glossy/shiny finish. And also if any other manufacturers have high gloss finished guns. All of the 1911's at my local shop are the nonglossly blued guns that I don't think are attractive in styleing. It doesn't quite matter what make as long as it is either colt, S&W, or other higher end gun as I don't much want to buy a cheap 1911. Haven't had luck with kimbers Iv'e shot, seems the triggers are not quite as nice but have heard that the older model kimbers were of much better quality. Any other suggestions about the different series 1911's would be good too. Thanks in advance, Bill

I'm afraid that the days of Smith & Wesson "Bright Blue" and Colt "Royal Blue" finishes on affordable, factory produced guns are pretty much over-more's the pity. :(

I just bought a Cimarron 1911 (picking it up tomorrow from the LGS). Philip J Rezac LLC has the high gloss/high polish blue model for around $650 (Cabela's has the same package for $800). Gunblast did a positive review a while back. If you're curious, let me know and I can take some pictures so you can see the finish.

Of the new blued Colts that I've seen, the finish was more matte than glossy. Surprisingly, some of the Philippine-made guns under the name "American Classic" have a well done polished bluing, at around half a grand.

Well, I picked up the Cimarron today and it definitely has a high polish finish...a very attractive 1911. I can easily make out the reflection of my face in the finish. I'd take a picture of it for you but I can't seem to find my digital camera. If you're interested, I'd check out the gunblast article (there are some pictures there that show the finish well). My only comment would be that mine definitely feeds best with ball ammo. I'm considering working on the feed ammo a bit to help it eat HP and semi-wad cutter ammo better. Otherwise I'm very pleased with it.
