Buddy picked one up yesterday in really nice condition, with holster and two mags.

Serial # 469xxx.

Gun is nicely engraved OH1 on the front of the grip, and holster is stamped with the same, which I believe is a pre-war police unit marking.

But I have been unable to find any reference to it, or what it means.

Any info appreciated.

That serial number is in the range of the Weimar Naval issue.

The Naval marking is on the front of the grip and consists of the Weimar eagle over "M" (for "Marine" or Navy), the letters "O" (for Marinestation der Ostsee (Baltic)) or "N" (for Marinestation der Nordsee (North Sea)), followed by a property number and sometimes a letter suffix. I don't know of the use of "H", though; could it be a blurred part of the number? (A good picture would help.)

A Weimar Naval issue Mauser is a rare variation, and worth a considerable premium.

Thanks!

But no indication of any of the typical marine marks.

The OH1 is very clearly engraved, before bluing.
About 1/4" high letters, so there is no mistaking them.

I should have taken pictures while he was here.

But I was confident it was going to be a simple matter to google OH1 1934 Mauser and get 1,000 hits!

Such is not the case however!

Unlike Lugers and P.38's, the Mauser 1934 does not seem to have ever been made on contract for the German services. Any service, the Navy for example, wanting pistols would simply have purchased as many guns as they needed from Mauser or even from a distributor, then marked them in their own depots according to their own regulations. The same would have been true of the police. Since there would have been no contract production run, the serial numbers would have been those of guns on hand in the stock room when the order was received; the number of guns in an order would probably have been determined by what was needed, or perhaps what the budget would allow at any given time.

Since the marking is not the Naval mark, I suspect it is that of a police or security organization but, like remodel, I have had no luck in finding its identity.

(The WWII era ordnance codes would not have been applicable in any case; that serial number was made before those codes were implemented.)

"Jim: I don't think they will let John Kasich have a pistol......"

Well, Trump claims he has a NYC permit. That refutes the idea that a NYC permit is hard to get when any common, ordinary, white multi-billionaire with political pull can own and carry a gun.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Now that is funny......

Don't forget he also stated that he could shoot someone in the middle of the street (I assume with that same pistol) and his supporters would still vote for him.......:banghead:

With his kind of money, the cops would probably bow as he left the scene in his limousine. Sure, the mayor is a Democrat, but the wealthy do so much mutual (deleted)-kissing that it is a wonder any of them can sit down.
