I have a 1936 S&W M&P (model 10) (4 screw) .38 Special. I bought it with two sideplate screws missing. The upper flat head sideplate and the far left round head sideplate screws are missing and have rolled over threads.

I ordered the sideplate screws from a place called Brownells.

Does anyone know the thread sizes for the side plate screws?

I suspect they are either 6-32 or 8-32 but I do not have any measuring tools. I will order the right taps from Brownells once I learn what they are.

Those screws are 42 pitch (tpi), but the large head screw has a smaller diameter. The screws from Brownells should work fine (the top screw has been discontinued in production, but Brownells should still have some). S&W changes their sideplate screws every couple of centuries whether they have to or not, so modern ones should fit. (I checked, and the screws from my 642 fit my Model 1899 and vice versa.)

Ok...I finally got an answer after many different inquiries. This is from the Brownells Gun Tech.

"The information we have lists this as a 5x44 TPI screw. The stock number for the tap is 395-544-002.

I bought the tap, retapped the hole and the new "large head" flathead screw fits just fine.
