I would like to know any info on this rifle, it is supposidly an original with a monte carlo stock and a original weaver M8 scope, I looked at this gun tonight and it was absolutly beautiful in all aspects, the owner is considering the price of $1000.00 I would like some input from all who are educated in this type of rifle. Thanks.............Mark

Mayabe a 30S?
Good stout gun on the 1917 action.

May predate Weaver scope and I dunno about Monte Carlo stock, my book is gone.

Sounds like a lot of money unless everything is period and in top condition.

You got pictures?

The Remington 30S. 257 Roberts is less common than 30-06.
The Weaver V-8 scope is vintage; but about 25 years newer than
the rifle. It was good in its day; but not very desireable today.
A Lyman Alaskan would be the correct glass.
I would say 1000 would be 400 too high for me.

I will try to get pics tomorow, it is absolutly beautiful, not just a safe queen, but a shooter, all numbers match, I feel this is a one of a few out there thats a keeper from a avid collecter whos needs to sell for what ever reason, I just want to know from you experts about this gun brfore I make the leap

257 is something Remington had a good handle on. The model 30 chassis is the Pattern 1917 "enfield" converted to civilian use. It's a very robust action, but somewhat heavy and really built for full house 30-06 loads. You could not likely overload a 257 for that action.

The Weaver M8 is a variant of the original 330 series. One of the earliest Weavers. It's closer to WW-II, but is old glass. No multi-coated lenses, the objective lens is small so it's pretty dark and flares easily. If it's perfect, you can sell it to a collector who is trying to assemble a period correct "sniper".

I would not pay that much unless the rifle is just so nice you can't stay away?
