I've decided to get my 1st autoloader and i have narrowed it down to either The CIA catamount furry OR the Mosberg 930 JM PRO

Which one is more reliable? The takedown on the JM looks a little complex, I also have a couple Saiga rifles so I am leaning towards the AK.

I want something that will reliably cycle cheap walmart ammo as well good HD stuff

I am not a 3 gun guy so that is not an issue.

catamount fury is basically a Chinese salga 12 knockoff. it has good reviews. [ not compatable ]

These are really 2 dissimilar guns - tube fed and box fed, different sights... I'm not sure how you landed with your final choice between these two.

The 930 had some teething problems when it was introduced, that have been taken care of as far as I know.

When I've read of an owner having a problem with the 930 I've always read where Mossberg took care of it. I really haven't read of any horror stories with the 930.

I have read horror stories concerning the Catamount. I mean horror stories where the shotgun wouldn't work, sent it, and it comes back from Century Arms and it still doesn't work. It really does not take too much effort to find these Catamount Fury horror stories on YouTube...

To me that is the difference, you can find many good reviews of both shotguns, but IMO, you'll be able to find some pretty bad owner experiences concerning the Catamount Fury and Century Arms, and it will be a rare occurrence that you find something similar with Mossberg.

I came to the conclusion of these 2 because they both hold a lot of rounds (9+1) & (10+1) and both have defensive use and both are CA compliant. Oddly enough they both cost 572$.

With the traditional design, the JM looks better suited to all around shotgunning uses. With the AK design and shorter barrel , the Catamount looks like a better defensive shotgun. Apprently both style of gun are prevalent in the 3 gun competitions.

The JM is supposed to have an automatic gas system to handle any loads. The Catamount AK has an adjustable gas setting, one for low pressure and one for high pressure. On you tube I can find both positive and negative videos for both guns. Nothing compelling enough to convince me one way or the other. That is why I posted here.

I trust Mosberg customer service. Over the last 20 years I have owned 2 M500s and never needed it ( moved from a 500 combo to a Persuader model which are really the same gun with the Persuader having a longer mag tube. )

Looking on you tube disassembly videos the Catamount looks way simpler. It doesn't hurt that I am already familiar with the AK platform but its not like I don't think I could learn the JM.

Decisions, decisions. I think reliability the is the most important factor for me, with speed & capacity coming second.

I am hoping to hear from some one experienced with both platforms.

Bought my first auto today, ended up being neither of the above. Went over budget a bit but now own a PG M2.

This is really easy decision if you want one-man door battering ram buy Catamount Furry if you want semi-automatic shotgun buy the Mossberg 930.
