Hello guys i did some trading earlier today at a local shop and this smith and wesson 22a was part of the whole transaction, I was able to try it and it had some hiccups for the 1st 50 rounds or so( i was using walmart cheapo ammo too) but after that it shoots pretty good, I only have experience shooting ruger and colt 22lr pistol and i will have to say accuracy is pretty good with this smith..anyway here she is..

What Wal Mart ammo are you using?

Mine loves the Federal 550rnds bulk (Value Pack) from Wal Mart but it did take about 100 rnds or so of expirementing with various bulk ammo before it would run 99.99%.

I like my 22A. It's been a great little plinker and is even capable of placing when I run real match ammo in it at the local Bulls Eye matches.

**A word of warning.** Be careful of dropping the mags on a hard surface. The plastic base pads are very fragile and crack easily. I just had to have Smith send me a new one. :banghead: To their credit they didn't charge me a dime.

Congrats. It should serve you well.

The range where I shoot has a 22A and I've run about 400 rounds through it shooting a mag of .22 then a mag of 9mm. Helps keep the price down and aid with my flinch avoidance training... :D

The 22A has done well but I started getting some fail to ejects. They cleaned it after I mentioned it and the next time around it was fine.

Since then I got my own .22 (not a 22A but that's another story) and found that....

A) .22's don't have a lot of oomph to play with so the gun needs to be REALLY clean on the slides and other parts that move during the eject and reload cycle and...

B) .22's are VERY dirty ammo that leads to the semis shooting them to require a good cleaning at around the 500 round mark.

Part of what I liked about the 22A is that since it's relatively light even a .22 makes it feel like you're shooting a "real" gun thanks to the recoil. I shot a Ruger Mark III and while it was a superbly accurate pistol (WAY more accurate than me) the "shooting experience" just wasn't there. The weight just soaked up the recoil too much and left me thinking I was shooting in a computer game with no kick coming back through the mouse. Yeah, I know the Ruger faithful will now proceed to crucify me but that's what I found.

Anyhow, congrats on a fun and cheap target plinker.

Forgot to mention that there was a thread on another forum about .22 semi pistols. The guy writing it went on about how the crud from the typical .22 round mixes with the slide lube oil and forms a lovely abrasive paste that wore away the slides of a SIG Mosquito in only 10K rounds. He bought another but based on a gunsmith's recomendation has been lubing it with dry molydenum disulphide powder only. He closed off saying that he's gotten up to 6K rounds on the new pistol and from his measurements there's ZERO wear. That's the sort of number I like so I'll be trying this on my own .22 pistols and maybe even on my centerfire semis as well.
