.223 makes it difficult to check for powder on a progressive. A Dillon powder checker, seems expensive, but if it catches a problem, really isn’t. It will do .22 calibers. I also use an RCBS Lock Out Die on larger pistol calibers. I prefer to visually confirm a powder drop and like to have a checker as well, but if I can’t see in the case I won’t load on a progressive without some sort of powder QC check.I was using a lee turret press. With a autodrum powder drop. The casings i didn't bother looking at close.
It’s DejaVu all over again. Short answer is, if it chambers, no. If you have sufficient neck tension, no. I load on a progressive and there’s room for a crimp die, so I don’t want it to sit in the box and be lonely, so I apply a very light crimp. However, it’s for AR use and while it’s good ammo, I’m not shooting PR. Good luck.Does .223 need to be crimped to function properly?
