20-Round AK Mags?

In the house and at the range I use my 20 round Hungarian mags exclusively. My vest is loaded with 30 rounders.

my hd AMD-65 has 40 round mag... you never know when you'd get the opportunity to use it all... I'd rather have too much than not enough...

They exist. They're just near impossible to find.

I wish that some of the many companies that make AK 47 mags for both 7.62 and 5.56 will start to make 5.45 mags. I want some clear 5.45 mags.

Don't know why 5.45 doesn't get that much love. Ammo is dirt cheap and with military ammo, more powerful then 5.56's military loadings.

If only Magpul would come out with a line of Pmags for AK's in both 7.62 and 5.45. If they could produced them with the same level of quality and with a similar price point as their AR mags they would make a killing.

You have no idea how much I agree with you two. :(

Very true. It annoys me that American manufacturers won't put a steel locking tab on their mags. I know many people use them with no problems but I personally broke that stupid tab off both the American mags I bought, so for the time being I'm only using commie mags. It would be nice to have a cheaper domestic alternative though.

Another thing I've always wondered, why do companies make boxes of 5.56 and 7.62x39 in 20 round boxes and not 30? Most people use 30 round magazines.

So three boxes fill two mags :)

Unless something has changed dramatically since my last flier from AIM surplus, the comblock steel AK mags are still available for <$10 each. Seeing how it'd likely take more plastic to make a 7.62x39 P-Mag, I doubt they could hit the price point of their current AR mags and it would still be 20-30% price premium over the "standard" mags if they did.

It would mean a lot more for 5.45 shooters. 5.45 mags are upwards of $25 (usually closer to $30) apiece and getting really hard to find lately.

I have some 1973 Sako 7.62x39 ammo in 30 round boxes. But all the Wolf boxes are 20 rounds. It is hard to figure since the 30 rd magazine is standard.

That said, I have a 5 round, a 20 round and four 30 round magazines for my AK rifle; the 5 and 20 are sure convenient to use from the bench when testing accuracy or zeroing sights. A stack of sandbags tall enough to clear a 30rd cuerno de chivo can be wobbly.

BTW, weren't the 20 rounders designed for use from inside armored vehicles utilizing firing ports?

Actually they start at $30 and can be as high as $55. I would love to get a 45 round Bakelite magazine but that's $100 right there.

I only have 5! At least the 4 Bakelites I have I was able to them all for just $20. The other one is a Tapco that came with my Tantal.

6 of mine are black Bulgarians, 3 circle 10, two circle 21 and a circle 25. The other two are Bulgarian sanitized Russian plums that I stripped the black paint off of.

How did you manage to get the Bakes for $20? If I were you, I'd keep one, sell the rest, and buy a bunch of Bulgarians.

I have some old Israeli boxes of 5.56 that are 30 rounds. I also seem to remember some Federal lake City that was also in 30 round boxes.

The Hungarian 20 round magazines were for use in their APCs. They made movement in and out, under fire, much easier. :)

Friend had that when he bought them 10 years ago for $10. He had no need for them so he sold them to me for cheap.

I was able to get a 20 round mag for my AK 74 by cutting down a Tapco mag, now I can use benches better.

Myself, I like the handy way the 20s work over the 30s. Too bad you can't show a foto and the stats on how you did it. I have them for my AKM in 7.62x39 but none for my Russion AK-74.
