i am going on a prong horn hunt in wyoming this week and took two of my favorite rifles for a final check, last week i sighted them in and then cleaned them and yesterday i shot them. target #1 was shot with my remington 700 dm 4x12 leupold in 7mm-mag 150gr bullet at 3000fps, the first shot was in the red dot center from a cold clean barrrel, the second shot was from a dirty cold barrel and hit at about 2:45 next to the red center dot. target #2 was shot with a remington 700 2.5x8 leupold in 7mm-08 120gr bullet at 3000fps, the first shot was about 2" high in line with red dot center from a cold clean barrel, the second shot was from a cold dirty barrel and was right next to the first one, i lowered the poi four clicks-2" to shoot on at 200yrds. these rifle all ways have shot very well from the get go new out of the box. i have decided to take the 7mm-08. eastbank.

Nice shooting! I have a tag for Eastern Wyoming speed goats this year.

I usually go to the Hornady site and use their ballistics software to calculate the arc. It lets me come up with a known 4 inch circle out to the furthest distance.

Good Luck!

i.m left handed, but for hunting i use both depending on the hunt i,m going on. eastbank.

east bank, I'm not sure where you are going in Wyoming, the thing I found on my pronghorn hunt in Wyoming out by Casper, Wyoming was the wind blew like all get up.(all 4 days) I managed to score but didn't get the one I wanted, note I used Remington 700BDL Custom Deluxe in .270 Winchester using Remington 130 grain Core-Loct.

near newcastle, area 6. we are leaving wednesday afternoon. we are driving, taking a trailer. it will take longer to drive out to wyoming than it took to fly to africa on my last hunt there last june-july. i have not been out west in over 25 years on a mule deer hunt. eastbank.

Bring a variety of clothing. The weather is all over the place. Cold in the 50's one day 90's the next. Winter weather advisories in the high country today, 70's by Monday,, maybe unless another cold front comes thru.

Oh ok, my tag is in 42, and I was just curious if you were in the same area. My antelope tag is in the same area as my deer and elk tags this year, and while I was up looking for elk a couple weekends in September, I was seeing no shortage up chubby antelope. Hopefully area 6 is as well stocked!

i like a long lenth of pull, but hate to do the stock craw. the men i am going with have been there and have given me a list of cloths to take, thanks. eastbank.

I like your two shot tests, as its testing what is most important for a hunting gun.

But I'd add in a third test shot

1) cold clean barrel
2) immediate follow-up shot after (1)
3) cold "dirty" barrel.

Got to love a reliable rifle you've become familiar with over the years, pull her out of the closet and she's dead on. The fact you have 2 is fantastic.

Good luck eastbank, looking forward to a field report with pictures
