I drew a permit to hunt a good public deer area last June. The hunt is this weekend; they allow 2 deer, either 2 does or a doe and a buck that is at least a 6-point.

I shot a doe first thing in the morning and then moved my stand and got this 8 point just before dark with a .25-06. I shot the buck back in a thicket of scrub oaks and had a devil getting him out. Luckily, a young, strong hunter I met last year in another area was hunting across the road and helped me drag him the last 100 yards through the thick stuff.

Thank you, Daniel.

I took this NW Fl doe last weekend, with my 700 in 243 with a Winchester 100 grain power point. I shot her at about 30 yards, and after the shot, she ran straight toward me, which was something I had never seen before. She crashed almost directly under the ladder stand. This year, our gun season will go until Feb 24, and then we will have a 2nd muzzle loader season (1 week) ending March 4. The rut in NW Fl is in the late Jan/early Feb time frame.

Has anyone else ever shot a deer and had it tun towards you?
twice One time bow hunting, small buck ran back at me and jumped the rock wall I was sitting next to. He was dead on the other side.

the other was a doe I shot, I had just gotten out of my truck were I parked on a wood road in the woods, I was about 30 feet from the truck then I had to pee. So as I was zipping up 2 deer came running down the hill, I pop the biggest one when she stopped. She ran past me and died less then 10 feet from my truck.

One more week to go with blackpowder and archery season. Trophy hunting for racks is pretty much behind us, will concentrate on filling doe tags before the season ends next weekend.

Been a exceptionally good year to date. Our family was blessed to take six nice bucks ranging between 145" and 167". Three shown here, two at the taxidermist and one more to boil out. May be one of the better years as far as the weather was concerned.

Hunted pretty hard and many long days that weren't productive, kinda glad to see it come to a close.

Yes I have. 4 point in the middle of a cut cornfield I shot from the tree line. He U turned for about a 150 yard death run to drop about 35 yards from me. Shot was about 150.

Deer don't run straight when they are hit from what I have seen. They bound through almost anything

I posted this in its own thread, but this thread is slowing down and if you like me you are missing the updates. I managed this one just after sunrise on opening day (11/1/19). 4 Showed up at the water I was hunting and I had to wait for them to arrange themselves so I wouldn't shoot more than 1. This one wasn't the largest of the group, but they were all about the same size and rack. In the desert where I hunt you take the best shot available/ethical when it arises. Or you may not see another for the rest of the week long season. 36 yards.

It was a fun hunt. Over too quick. Like normal, I was alone and had to load it in the truck by myself. I skinned it in the back of my truck and had it at the processors hanging in the cool room in 5 hours.

This one turned out to be a 'Dark Cutter' as they say in the meat cutting business. It must have had some stress in the 48 hours prior to my encounter with him. A little dry, but other than the darker red he tastes just fine.
