I agree with mpmarty, what is your definition of "jam"? failure to extract, double feeds, stovepiping, failure to fire? Was it the first round, was it the last in a magazine? These can be indicators of what's going wrong.

I only have about 300 rounds through this gun total.

what was your experience with the first 200 rounds?

I had similar problems with my PT-145 -- all Failure to Feed. I tried to correct it myself (having deal with Taurus service many times). This was a big waste of time. I loved the package (size, weight, firepower, etc.) I traded it back where I bought it for a Glock. I'm normally a revolver and 1911 guy. But you've got to love the simple and reliable design of the Glock.

I reported my experiences in detail over on the Taurus BBS and the moderator removed my post. This was about a year ago or so when the new model 145 first came out.

If your experience is anything like mine with Taurus you will end up paying the overnight shipping cost to send it to them and they will have it for about 12 weeks. If you're luck they'll fix it the first time. It took them three tries with my titanium revolver and 12 weeks each time. Loved the gun until the second time it had to go back. Hated dealing with Taurus customer service. I wouldn't give a bucket of spit for another one of their products.

Read an article by Clint Smith the other day about a Taurus 1911. Great gun he said......except the extractor broke around 1300 rounds. Ya figure, they advertise with his mag, so he can't out and out slam em. But that seems to be a recurring comment. "Life time guarantee" all the Taurus fans point out. Okay. But isn't that like a life time guarantee on a parachute? My Dad has owned several Tauruses. He's sent two back to take advantage of the lifetime guarantee. He's done that with one Ruger too. But never had any warranty work on the truckload of Smiths or Colts he's had pass through his hands. Not slamming Taurus, but if it walks like a duck........

a 21% failure rate is unacceptable in any gun. first of all, i don't believe in "break in" periods. a well made gun should function out of the box. it shouldn't be picky about ammo. it should fire if you've cleaned it or not. it should fire if you're hanging upside down from a redwood tree during a blizzard with a blindfold on. i currently carry two guns, a S&W sigma and a cobra ca380. the sigma has gone 2,000 rounds without a single problem. the cobra has fired close to 200, with only one problem, which is probably mag related. a cheap cobra pocket pistol! if i were you, i'd send that gun back to the factory today, and demand they fix the problem. when you get it back, sell it and put the money towards a better gun.

i know every gun will have at least one malfunction during its lifetime. i just believe that once it begins to malfunction, it's reached the end of its lifetime.

Thanks for all your comments guys. Taurus says that 230 gr bullets are fine with this gun btw. the problem was either failure to feed, stovepiping on feed, or double feed with one round stovepiping behind the one that went into the chamber (for the record, that only happened once. I think I am going to get the G30 in a few weeks and in the meantime, send the 145 back to taurus. Sadly enough, parisite is right, Hi-Point's customer care is better than tauruses. I have been saving for another handgun. I think ill trade the taurus in for another Hi-Point when it comes back...
Thanks for all your suggestions and happy Thanksgiving to all!!
