22 ammo quality

I always stay away from the Winchester and Remington. I've had good results with the federal value packs out of a custom 10/22, but my relatively new browning buck mark hates the stuff.

In my experience, cci mini mag is the only way to go, unless you get match ammo. I still buy federal value packs for the days when other people are with me shooting and I want something cheap, but I'm only shooting mini mags myself.

i like cci minimags best. at least my rem 597 does. don't know why, but the round nose does way better than hollow points. bulk ammo is ok for cans & plinking, i just haven't found one that will shoot as accurately. good luck!

I like Winchester bulk pack for squirrel hunting -- those big hollowpoints really hit with authority -- sometimes too much authority.

But my Colt Woodsman doesn't like their wide mouths and won't feed them reliably.

I get most of my FTFs from the bulk 333 winchesters and plain old cheap federal...I think winchester production quality has gone down in the last few years. It all depends on the gun, though. CCI minimags tend to perform best out of the widest variety of .22s I shoot, but it's all a crapshoot as to what your gun likes best. I've owned high dollar guns that love to eat from the gutter, and vice versa.

My Huntsman doesn't like widemouths either...

The Remington .22 ammo is about the worst .22 ammo you can buy in my experience. That being said, I've shot several guns that like the Winchester Xpert and only a few that didn't, and I've shot several that like the Federal bulk pack, and a few of the ones that liked the Xperts didn't like the Federal. It all just depends on what your gun likes. In general CCI is usually great ammo though it just costs a little more.

Also another one of the cheaper .22 options I've found to be great for just shooting is the Federal 510B ammo they sell at Walmart under the "Lighting" name. It's $1.47 for a box of 50 at our Walmart and $1.7something at the one 30 minutes up the road. It really works well in every gun I've ever shot in it, but since it's a solid tip it wouldn't be my choice for any kind of hunting.

I've also had decent luck with CCI SV ammo they sell for $25 for a brick at Dicks, but I honestly like the Federal Lighting better as well as the Winchester Xpert in most cases for plinking.

If you want really accurate ammo at a decent price try the Wolf Match ammo. You will more than likely be surprised by your groups as you watch them shrink down.
