I'm getting my sun a .22 for Christmas and I am wondering if there is such thing as a buttstock sleeve that holds bullets just like on a 30-30 or 30-06 rifle buttstcok. I really would like to get a bullet sleeve for my son so he does not have to carry bullets in his pocket.

If there was such a thing.
Which there is.
It wouldn't work so hot as you think it would.

They make ammo holders for .22 ammo that don't get in the way.
Don't stretch & get loose over time and drop all the ammo in the dirt.
Or require any other gymnastics to reach beside your ear to reach the extra ammo stuck to the stock by a rubber elastic band.

Myself?
A leather tobacco pouch from a cigar store works about as well as anything else.

You can get a fabric butt stock pouch that could be used to hold loose ammo. I have an Uncle Mike's fabric belt pouch which Velcro-opens at the top (no lid, kind of like opening a paper milk carton) and holds a box or so of loose .22 ammo.

I just save the plastic slide open cases from CCI ammo and reuse them. I know it doesn't help much with carry. However, if most of your trips are to the range anyway, it's a great way to organize them. I buy the bulk 22 LR when I can find it so they just come loose in the cardboard box. The CCI ammo comes in 50 and 100 round size and don't cost a thing to reuse the box.

I am building a savage 22/410 over under for a Survival rifle.
I planned to take a piece of rubber that is 3/4 " wide and about 3/8 thick and mount it flat with two wood screws to the side of the stock, or install it with two snaps so it was removable.
The rubber strip would have holes drilled into the top so bullets could be placed in a row flat along the stock.
The holes would be just a tick smaller than the size of a 22 diameter, so the friction of the rubber would hold them in.
The top of the buttstock would be drilled for spare .410 shells with a cover.

2-mag stock pouch for an M1 carbine? Should be able to put a LOT of .22's in one. I'd get a reproduction, they're cheaper and softer, not as stiff.

Find someone who loads shotgun shells, get them to give you an empty shot bag, it'll hold more .22 cartridges than you can currently buy at a time. I've used one for years, never wears out either!

Another suggestion is to hollow out the buttstock and install a side swing trap door like on the Savage 24 series survival combo rifle shotguns.
It is Handy storage, and can be made either for 22 shells in line or a big hollow pocket for them in there loose.

I velcro taped an old pouch to the side of my Savage 42 .22/.410
It has loops for six shotshells and enough space for a small survival kit and a ziplock bag with 40 .22 shells.

Good for keeping emergency stuff on the gun, not so good when actually huinting because of the ripping sound velcro makes when being opened.
I always keep the shells I think I will need for a hunt in one of my shirt or jacket pockets.
As far as an elastic band type set up, the reason you can't find one for .22 rimfire shells is the things don't work well at all with cartridges this small.
