Hi, all. I was wondering what 1911 .22 conversions didn't require fitting on a Springfield 1911 frame. I've heard that a Ciener frame may probably require fitting, but there was no problem with a Marvel kit. Once you factor in the $100 to fit the slide, may as well get the better conversion. Any thoughts on this? And what about the Advantage Arms kits, do they require fitting? Thanks for replies!

Years ago, I found a 22lr conversion kit that just did not work w/ my 1911. I eventually traded it away. I have a shooting buddy that has had a Ceiner kit that has worked very well and if I end up getting another conversion kit, it'll be a Ceiner...yes, it did require fitting tho ;)

I've had my Ciener Platinum Cup on 2 Rock Islands and my Kimber, with no problems on any of them. As a matter of fact, I bought my last RIA to make it a dedicated .22 with the Ciener. I always shoot hyper-velocity .22s and it has been flawless and accurate.

My Ciener top end worked fine on Colt and Essex 1911 frames I have, but I've not tried it on a Sprngfield. I don't know why it wouldn't work.

I've got mine mounted on an dedicated alloy RMT frame.

Both the target versions from Marvel and Advantage should be fine. Only a portion of the slide moves. The Advantage does lock open on the last round, where the others don't.

I had a Ciener base model for my Springfield Armory (the burglar or the burglar’s customer has it now) that worked fine.

I have now put 80 rounds of only one brand of ammo through a new Kimber target model. The Kimber has failed to cycle to one extent or another roughly 8 to ten times. Most failures were short strokes. A few had full ejection and cocking but failed to pickup the next round from the magazine. If, after another 400 rounds or so I still have such troubles with a variety of ammo, I will contact Kimber and post my results with the conversion and with Kimber customer service.

I put the Marvel Type 1 conversion on a Colt Series 70 frame. The reason I used that frame was that the .22 Colt mags wouldn't fit properly in the mag well of my other 1911s. The Marvel conversion fit fine on all of them.

I use a Ciener on my Kimber, and it works great. I always use either stingers or velocitors. Everyone always asks me how accurate it is, and I tell them to ask someone who is a better shot than I am, but I've never had it malfunction in any obvious way. I wish extra mags weren't so expensive. I also wich Ciener would sell a .17 Mach II barrel for it. I'm fairly certain my Kimber is a tighter fit than a SA GI.

I had an Advantage Arms on my Glock, and it was very picky about ammo. (This is why I only use the hot stuff in the Ciener.) The main thing I couldn't get used to on the Glock was that being lightweight to begin with, the .22 slide is even lighter aircraft aluminum, and it felt (even more) like a toy.

Further on the Kimber conversion:

Thus far, three brands of high velocity hollow points fail to cycle the slide for the first three to four rounds out of a full magazine. Two brands of high velocity and one of standard velocity 40 gr solids run the gun from first shot to last.

Testing is a must.

My buddy put a ciener kit on his springfield mil-spec and it works just fine. He probably only has 500 rounds or so through it, but so far so good...
