just received a used, very nice/clean looking high standard kit gun 9=shot revolver on-line auction.
It was advertised that the single action works fine but In double action when the trigger is pulled, the cylinder turns but the trigger does not move.
The only disassembly I've ever done on any of my guns was enough to clean the action only so I am not familiar with the inner workings of a revolver.
Could someone advise what the problem could be and if it is easy enough for an average gun-owner like myself to fix?
Thanks.

I suspect that what you have is the western version of the Hi Standard Sentinel. One indicator is does it have pins instead of screws. If it does, then let an old timey experienced gunsmith handle it as it is kind of like building a ship in a bottle other than removing the grips. Here is a video about it.

Easiest thing to you to do is to use an aluminum safe cleaner as the revolver is probably gummed up. The Hi Standard has an aluminum frame so don't go crazy with an ultrasonic cleaner.
Some pictures of different models.

The designer, Harry Seifert, I believe, later went on to work for Ruger and there is a similarity in the Ruger solid frame DA revolvers and the Sentinel.

So did the cleaning make a difference?
One part that affects cocking and indexing the cylinder is the hammer safety stop.
If it binds up some can really play heck with da trigger pull.

Soak it in Automatic Transmission fluid and Acetone for a week in a sealed container. Minus the grips of course. If it is gummed up, this will most likely break it up.
