Hello. I'm finishing up on a .44 Magnum semiautomatic scratch build and now looking in to the next project.

It turns out I have a couple of .22 Magnum barrels and have already decided on a .22 Magnum bolt-action rifle scratch build. But this is (especially compared to the build I am finishing) a relatively simple and quick project.

But I recently found an old non-working handgun that had disappeared on me during a move and am thinking about heavily modifying it to a .22 Magnum.

A modification would be; like the .44 Magnum, technically/legally a modification but realistically a scratch build.

Delayed blow-back is a pain in the butt to do and; seeing how much a hassle it was in the .44 Magnum, I am not sure I have the energy to do it over again, so I am thinking more along the line of direct blow-back. But I also know the .22 Magnum has had issues in recoil operated firearms in the past and that carefully balancing the weight of the slide is how it's typically dealt with. So, assuming I choose to go with a semiautomatic handgun, does anyone have any idea what is an ideal weight for the slide? Also, any other ideas and suggestions on making it reliable? Thanks in advance.

Ask around and see if you can get someone to weigh their 10/22 (magnum) bolt to get a baseline. After that it'd be tuning the recoil spring for function.

That's actually why I started this thread. Oh well, I guess I'll ask more specifically.
