I bought a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .223. I've tried a couple of different types of bullets and none of them will group any suggestions??

Here is what I have tried

Barnes TSX 55 gr
Hornaday Superformace V-Max 53 Gr
Hornaday TAP V- Max 50gr
Remington PSP 55gr
Remington HP 55gr

definitely try something heavier... at least 69g or 77g. buy a box of black hills or fed GM

Agreed, you need to try a wider spread of weights to find where accuracy peaks.

The barrel is 1/9.
If it won't group 53 or 55 grain V-Max, the chances are slim to none it will group anything else much better.

and none of them will group
What are your expections?

And how well can you shoot?

I would expect sub MOA, but I would not expect sub 1/4 MOA!

Try Sierra Match King 69gr.

My .22-250 (slow twist rate though) loves the Sierra MK 52 gr. and the Blitz King 50 gr. Once I found the right powder charge it was grouping under an inch every 5 shot group. Several were at or under .5", all at 100 yards

My 1 in 9 Savage bolt does best with 69g SMK bullets under Reloader 15. Just under 1/2" at 100 yards. It doesn't shoot the 55g bullets near that well.

Black Hills 69 SMK or BH 68 BTHP, Federal TRU soft points, Hornady steel match.

Nosler varmint 55gr has been my best grouper in a 16" 1:9 twist.

53 gr SMK have been about the same as remington bulk 55gr--decent, but not super amazing or anything..

Perhaps try a different powder or charge weight?

Two bullets that have consistently worked for me in my 223's are Sierra 52MK and Berger 52gr match, I have never had a 1/9 twist 223 give me good groups with the Sierra 69gr match as other have reported.

Interested to know what type scope your using, is the barrel free floated.

With an HS Precision stock mine shoots groups like this with 77 Sierra Match bullets:

Its been my experience that a 223 of any twist rate that wont shoot 50g nosler ballistic tips over a stiff charge of h335 is a lemon and most likely wont be accurate with anything else

I have a .223 with a 1/9 twist. Surprisingly it shoots 60 gr. Sierras very well but on either side of that weight, 55 or 63 gr. bullet groups open up with every powder brand and charge weight I've tried. Varget gives me the tightest groups of any power I've tested in all three of my .223s. Sure wish I could get the same results with that smooth metering BLC-2 but I can't.

My 1:9 .223 Rem likes 55 Nosler BT over middle-to-max charge of Benchmark (per Nosler manual.) 0.75" for 5 shots at 100 yards

I'll try the heavier weights. Im just not setup to load this caliber I do however reload 257 & 270wby mag, & also load 6mm-284. The rifle is built for accuracy ( so remington states) it has a Hough over molded dual point piller bedded stock, 20" heavy tapered barrel, that's free floated 1/9 twist. X3 adjustable trigger(which will changed). I have a Zeiss Conquest 3x9x40.
I would expect at least a 1" group at a 100yrds.
Thanks for the input.

I have one exactly just like yours and am very happy and confident shooting it. I am cheap and use the cheapy ammo PMC 55gr $7.99/box of 20. With that ammo I am grouping 1" at 100 yards and 3" at 250 yards. I use a 3-9x 40mm scope.

What powder(s) are you using?
I shoot 223's with 1-8,and 1-9 twist and shoot bullet weights from 55gr-75gr out of both.

H335,IMR 4895,BL-C(2),Varget,and Reloader 10 are great 223 powders.

My best accuracy with .224 bullets in a 1/12 twist was with Sierra 55 grain Semi-Pointed bullets, but most Sierra 55s have shot well in my Remington rifles. My Tikka .223 Rem, 1/12" barrel loves the 55 grain V-Max, ahead of 24 grains of A2230, CCI Primers, COAL 2.335".

If bullets that work well in other Remingtons aren't shooting well in yours, try seating bullets almost touching the lands, then back a little at a time until a sweet spot is found. Seating depth is one of the most critical items in getting an otherwise good rifle to shoot well. It's usually more important to accuracy than powder charge.

Next item that should be tried is different primers. I've had some bad batches of primers lately. Try Federal primers if you haven't already.
