Hi all, am having trouble with reforming 223 brass to 222 Rem.
How can I do this without the creases in the shoulder area?
I removed the expander stem and used minimal lube. The brass is R.P.

I have reformed other brass with no problems to this extent.
Thanks for any input.
Floyd

Looks like still too much sizing lube to me.

Clean the die first, then start over and use just what lube you can't wipe off with your fingers.

rc, tried your input, the creases are much less prominant, I think I could fire form now.
Thoughts?
Thanks, Floyd

Yes, those will fire-form fine.
But I think you are still using too much lube.

Just put it on and then wipe all you can get back off with your fingers.

If you get dents at all, lube is collecting in the die shoulder.
Oil can't be compressed at all, so it makes dents to make room for itself.

As long as you have lube down lower on the thicker case web you won't stick a case in the die from too little lube.

I use Imperial Sizing Die Wax (now sold as Redding Sizing Die Wax). I dab my index finger and thumb in the wax, then rub the neck and shoulder of five or six cases before dabbing my fingers.

You do have to flush the wax residue at the end of your sizing/necking session, but I just never have lube-induced dented cases anymore.

Neither will he if he wipes the RCBS lube off the neck and shoulder leaving only a very thin film he can't wipe off.

I have done a whole bunch of case forming using RCBS lube in a tube, and once I figured out I was using more then necessary, I never had another dented case.

As rcmodel posted, it's the lube...guaranteed.... :)

My .32-20 brass is so thin I get some dents with even the slightest bit too much lube. It's a very thin line between enough and too much with them.

flashole, this is once fired brass---------
I am using very little lube and am having much better luck, thanks guys for the interest.
I have many 223 cases and very little for my 222 Rem., hench the reforming-plus it's fun!!!
Floydster P.S. I am using an old CH press I bought in 1952 with the dies I bought at the same time:)

I re-form a lot of 223 to 221 Fireball. I've seen what you experienced many times. I use Imperial Die Sizing Wax too and have never had an occurance where I applied too much. A little goes a very long way and it's especially useful for large cases. My experience is that annealing is always the best thing to do when reforming unless you are doing something minor like 270 to 25-06. Glad you sorted it out. And I agree, re-forming is fun.
