.22lr MEGATHREAD

A good bit of .22LR today at Academy in Bartlett/Memphis. One standard brick in black cardboard, about $50. They also had about eight of the 100-rd. Golden Bullet and about thirty 50-rd. boxes.

It was about 2:00 PM. The .22 panic Is slowing a bit-that's why I seldom have the desire to look for it, with this Academy near the route to Shelby Farms. Gave up on .22 quite a while ago. Indifference is a nice feeling.

But I went there for two boxes of 9x18 Makarov ammo. They didn't seem to have it. Don't want to touch the Queen Hillary (etc) reserve Mak stash.

Dick's in Mishawaka (and I assume every location) is having a Father's Day sale starting the 11th. Supposed to have a lot of .22's. Limit one brick or three small boxes.

when they limit you, low prices are worthless. the shipping eats you up when you buy small quantities. i went to that site but with the limit the cost/round was higher than paying more but buying 5 cases of at least 325 rounds. that was my last order n it was cheaper because i saved on shipping.

A brick is 10 50 round boxes. Everything else is bulk pack.

Unless it's 10-40 round boxes:)

Generally speaking you are correct. A brick is a bundled pack of 10 boxes virtually always 50 rounds per box but I know of at least one that is 40 rounds per.
As has been noted, a bulk pack can be anywhere from 222 up to 550 in a single box. I am sure there are other bulk packs but that's what I have on hand.

Just as an FYI, this past Monday (June 8, 2015) I was at the Cabela's in Buda, TX and they had some Norma .22s in stock - about $65/500.

Today (June 11, 2015) I visited the new Bass Pro Shop superstore in Round Rock, TX, the day after their grand opening. They had plenty of .22s, and no limit was posted. Federal Auto Match was $19.99/325 - about $2 more than Cabela's had it for a couple of months ago. CCI AR Tactical was around $22/300, and for $109.95 you could get a plastic ammo can with 1600 rounds of CCI Mini-Mags; that's about 6.9 cents a round, plus tax. And you get a reusable ammo box.

NO LIMIT was posted. Most of the .22s were on or under a large table, but they were bringing more out from in back - a large cart with several shelves full of .22 ammo was nearby. (One guy emptied an entire shelf into his shopping cart - I imagine he'll have a table at the next local gun show. I hope he ends up having to eat it.)

Not what I'd call screaming bargains, but a lot less than what the price gougers have been charging at the gun shows for the past two years.

"A brick is 10 50 round boxes. Everything else is bulk pack. "

Big Ditto!
Agreed. It's very annoying when people talk about .22 they invariably call anything larger than a 100 round box a brick. So called "bricks" are very hard to find these days so just call them what they are, bulk packs. I guess some folks just feel cool using the lingo.

Big score at Wally-World. Yesterday I bought 3 100rnd boxes of Winchester .22lr. Today, I went back and got 3 more. If they still have it on the shelf tommorow, I may believe we're getting back to normal.

i'll think normal when prices get right. i get what i need online but i can't shoot as much as i want because i just can't afford to.

most days i limit myself to 30 rounds. who ever heard of shooting only 30 rounds of 22lr?

This week I've gotten the American Eagle bulk pack and yesterday just got a 325 of Federal auto Match at Gander Mountain in Merrillville, IN for (I think) $22. One box limit on bigger boxes.

They had American Eagle in 50's for $2.29. Limit three.

Dick's Sports is having a sale starting Sunday the 14th. Federal is going to be $19/box (I assume 325). They also have American Eagle and Winchester, maybe others

Local fleet store got 10 remmington GB buckets. buddy was there when the opened the boxes. called me. in the time it took for me to get to the store. (less than 5 minutes - I checked the phone) gone. poof.

watched one lady with 5 of them in her cart and on the phone selling them at about a 30% markup ($100 a bucket) right out of the cart, before she had even paid for them yet. wow.

One of the clerks was on her about limit one per person, but the lady basically told the clerk to go do something anatomically impossible. and continued the phone calls. Store policy is to not make an issue with belligerent shoppers (typical anti lawsuit crap) so they did nothing while I assume, other people came in and grabbed them from her cart.

22 use at my local range is pretty steady. but many of the regular shooters have been through the scares before, and they have large supplies.

However, what is different in the past 2 years is the proliferation of 40's and 380's by new owners. seems to be the big sellers now. Guessing when the shelves were empty of everything but - that is what they figured would still be available next time.

There was a time the last two summers when I saw very few people shooting 22 any of three ranges. Now with the weather beautiful again it's 22 thick. I think it is us guys with good supplies who also have been busy buying online letting a little inventory go down range.

people keep talking about ''scares'' when 22lr was hard to get.
i didn't know that happened besides now.
can somebody please tell me how often this happens?
i've been shooting off n on for a long time but not running thru lots of ammo til now. i never was unable to get 22lr locally before.
