Howdy!
I have been reloading for 4 or 5 months now, mostly .308 and .223. I want to start loading pistol calibers to cut down on costs and I have settled on my first progressive, which should be showing up here in the the next few days. To start off, I ordered 1500 mixed head stamp .45 ACP commercial and 1000 Berry's 230 grain RNDS bullets. Two questions, 1) hows my recipe look, and 2) what's the consensus on unique? Thanks!

Gun: S&W 1911pd
Brass: Mixed
Primer: CCI 300 Large Pistol Primer
Powder: Unique
Powder charge: 4.8, 5.0, 5.2, 5.4
Bullet: Berry's Bullets 230 grain RNDS
OAL: 1.265

5.0grs of Unique is a relatively light target load around 750 fps with a 230gr bullet. 6.0grs will give you about the equivalent to factory ammo around 850 fps. OAL should be set so that the bullet properly chambers and varies depending upon bullet brand. So pull your barrel from your pistol and test the round in the chamber to make sure it fits, drops in and falls out just like a factory round.
