26 Nosler

I like the .264 bores and would love to see what it really is.

sounds great. i just wonder what barrel life will be like.
IIRC, the .264 Win. Mag. had a bad reputation as a barrel burner and it launched a 130 grain bullet at around 3,100 to 3,200 f.p.s. This one, at 3,400 f.p.s., may not leave much barrel fife if consistently loaded that hot.

I have a .264 WSM (a .300 WSM necked down) built on a Remington 700 action, but I start showing pressure signs in the 3,200 FPS neighborhood with sticky bolt and flattened & cratered primers. I haven't tried 100 grain bullets in it, but I doubt I could get them going 3,400 FPS either.

Well, maybe some one will finally update the powder selection for my old favorite, the .264 Win Mag. I doesn't seem like anyone has looked past the good ole IMR 4350.
Oh, well. I'm a .264 junkie and will probably fully embrace the new Nosler round.

Maybe Nosler is just trying to find a use for all that 50 BMG powder available out there for bargain prices. I suspect it might work reasonably well in the .26 Nosler. (If, as rumored it is based on a necked down .375 Ruger Magnum case.)

Can't wait to learn more about the cartridge. I love the 6.5 family and am always looking to add to it.

Given the length of the cartridge I can't help but wonder if it's going to be a 6.5-284 stretched to 30-06 lengths...

I ran the numbers through a ballistics program. The 26 at 3400 doesn't have the energy at the muzzle of a 260 Remington loaded with the same bullet at a normal easily reachable velocity at 400 as they cliam. Point blank will take a zero of right on 300 yards. It shoots flat but unless they have a super magic powder there is no way to shoot faster with less recoil. I think there is a physics lesson in there somewhere. Sorry Charlie.

That is a huge amount. My 358 Norma Mag is only 88. Those barrels won't last long unless they chrome plate them.

RUM cases have about that much space for powder, don't know about the 376 steyr or 375 ruger case.
But I'm sick of specialty loads/rounds with single source brass.
Those corn holes at hornady closed off the 376 cases for recreational use just when I wanted to go that low in caliber.

Will this "thang" shoot existing .264 or 6.5 bullets, or will they be special. I am 8mm and 25-06 focused so I don't know squat about the myriad of calibers in that area.

Thanks in advance
