I just bought my first .270 this week, a Sako 75 Hunter. I know the standard answer is to try different rounds to see which shoots best out of my rifle, but I am just trying to narrow it down a bit based on others experiences. Looking to use the rifle for deer and hog primarily. Most shots under 200 yds. Anyone have a particular brand or weight of bullet they are happy with in terms of accuracy and stopping ability? At this point I think I am leaning toward the Hornady 130 gr. SP Interlock cartridge. I do not reload so I am looking for "off the shelf" suggestions. Any thoughts?

I think that the 130 Hornady is a good place to start.
Try the Remington 130 grain Core-Lokt also.
If you reload, the 140 grain Sierra Game King is a really great bullet.
I shoot this bullet in my Ruger#1 with excellent results.
Respectfully, Zeke

I have killed nearly 150 deer and hogs with a 270 over the last 25 years and have killed most of them with factory loaded 150 gr ammo. I am currently shooting a Sauer 202 in 270 and am now loading my own ammo. I am using 150 gr Speer Hot Cors for now.

My son has been shooting a 270 for several years, and he has been using Winchester Supreme 140 gr Accubonds.

For a factory round, I would give the Accubonds a try.

I've had 270s go thru Texas deer with premium bullets (exit hole the size of the entrance hole), so I switched back to cheap Core-lokts. Problem solved.

Personaly I would hope for the cheap Core Lokt's to shoot well in my gun why pay 35 bucks or more for ammo when Core Lokt's can do it a lot cheaper.

I bought a New Ruger Hawkeye in 308 along with Win. supreme ballistic silvertips, Win 150gr. Power points and Remton 150 gr. Core lokt's.
The Supremes shot 3" groups and the Power points were a little better.
The remington Core lokt's saved the gun from being traded off I shot overlapping bullet holes at 100 yards.
The above mentioned ammo was all that was available in So. Arkansas.
See what the Core Lokt's do in 270 Good Luck...A.H

I like Hornady's 140 gn btsp interlock. They have performed very well out of my rem 700 and have reliably dropped deer within a few yards every time.

I have had a good string of one shot kills using 140 grain accubonds with my 270 wsm, they also work great in my 270 win. Since you don't handload you can get the federal premium loading. Accubonds expand well yet retain weight and penetrate well so they should be just the ticket for hogs. I have never recovered a 270 140gr accubond from a deer; even when I shot a 150 pound buck in the front shoulder when it was quartering towards me the bullet exited just in front of the offside back leg. Although with good shot placement any vanilla softpoint will work.

I have had the best luck with 130 grain Nosler Partitions and 130 grain Barnes X. Now I have to shoot the latter because I live in "California Condor Range". I reload and have not shot factory ammo in my .270 Win in years. If you reload you can really get good accuracy. Most premium factory ammo is adiquate, but I prefer hand loads. A good quality 130 grain bullet is more than sufficient to take deer and wild hogs. Remember shot placement is the key to success. By the way good choise in rifles. The Sako is great!

Hornady 140 grn Interlocks shoot the best in my Model 70. They have performed
perfectly on deer and I would not hesitate using them on hogs. Federal loads the 150 grn Nosler Partition bullet in their Premium line and it would be the ticket for very large hogs.

yup, My 700 in 270 will shoot 130 gr. Core-lokts under MOA and work just fine on game. MOA off a bench is better than needed in the field to over 300 yards, which is as far as most of us should shoot at game anyway.

Any off the shelf hunting bullets should be fine, just find the one or one's your rifle likes.

congrats on getting a very fine rifle. would'nt trade mine for the world.(well maybe the world :) ) truth is all sako's shoot M.O.A. or they don't leave the factory. keep it between 130 and 150 gr. for deer and you'll be fine. no matter what you feed it, it will be plenty accurate enough for deer. just make sure to zero the gun to that particular load you'll be using in the field. different brands have diff, points of impact.

I also (when not using my AR to hunt with) shoot my .270. I use 130gr. I use cheap, regular 130gr Federal rounds....they work fine for my needs.

Try the cheapest Federal, Winchester, and Remington you can find first. If one or more of those shoot well, stick with whichever one works the best or cheapest if all equal. If not move up to the premiums. My custom Mauser doesn't like cheap ammo. I use the Hornady Custom 130gr soft point (Hornady item #8055) with great success. I have shot several 1/2 MOA groups with it, and it averages around 3/4 MOA in my rifle. That said I am considering getting another rifle in 270 that will shoot cheaper ammo for hog hunting. Almost $30 a box sucks. I need to start reloading.

I put 130 gr. Hornady Custom Interlocks(soft point) through my savage 110, it prints about .25MOA with them :) (Really) With cheap Core-lokts it prints about 1.25 MOA. If I didn't hunt at ranges over 200yds, I would just stick with the core-lokts.
